A film that’s been admired, hated and puzzled-over in fairly equal amounts, writer/director David Lynch’s ambitious 1984 adaptation of Frank Herbert’s science fiction novel gets an extensive fanediting treatment in Dune The Alternative Edition Redux. This is my third and final cut of an edit I first released in 2008 and again in 2009. As previously, it draws on the heavily cut Theatrical Version, the controversial Extended “TV” Version and a selection of Deleted Scenes and soundtrack cues.

From what many consider to be the the worst Bond title song ever, to the frenetic action sequences which have come straight from a Jason Bourne movie, Marc Forster’s take on James Bond struggled to maintain that special identity which separates 007 from the rest of the crowd. For this fanedit, I wanted to try and achieve a few things which I hope may inject the movie with more personal emotion and drum home the feeling that Bond’s trail of vengeance, not to forget Camille’s too, is very much what the film is about.

This is a sequel to THE WAR OF THE STARS: A NEW HOPE GRINDHOUSED, released in 2010. The goal is now to mix “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi” while taking care of the changes made for the first edit. A lot of deleted scenes are also back in this edit. Some hopefully intertaining twists and more than 90 new special effects turn this project into something that I think is special even if maybe not as “fun” as the first edit. Or fun in another kind of way.

(This is not a “grindhoused” version, although some of the deleted scenes are looking old and the main sources used are from the Original Theatrical Cuts released in poor quality in 2006 as a “bonus” to the special edition DVD).

This is it, the one that started it all. The Phantom Edit wasn't the first fanedit, but it is certainly one of the most famous and brought the art of fanediting into the mainstream. The Phantom Editor's work reveals the power of editing and is a clinic on structure and pacing. A must-see for all fans of fanediting.

The first of a six-part edit made to bring Peter Jackson’s adaptations of “The Lord of the Rings” as close as possible to the original book by J.R.R. Tolkien, this covers the first half of “The Fellowship of the Ring”.

This edit combines Superman The Movie and Superman II into a single narrative that strips out the distractions of Lex Luther’s land-grab and instead focuses on the relationship between Kal-El and his father Jor-El, and the challenges that Superman faces in accepting his duty and destiny. With an entirely new ending that does not rely on time travel or memory-wiping kisses, we finally have a Superman with an ending of consequence, where the events we invested our time watching, have meaning.

L.A. Confidential with less focus on Bud White and Lynn Bracken and an ending more in line with the overall tone of the film.

This is a simplified take on McG’s Terminator Salvation. Irrelevant, useless and unbelievable subplots have been removed in order to create movie that now focuses on the war effort itself.

Like many fanedits before it, my version aims to cut bad acting, bad dialog and streamline the film. I’ve also attempted bring the prequels in alignment with the original trilogy by cutting anything that broke continuity. I really want viewers to be able to watch Episodes 1-6, in order, without having key moments in the later films spoiled. Anakin no longer is C3PO’s creator. In fact, C3PO and R2D2 are no longer major (minor?) characters in the PT. They are now just like any other droid. They do have minor dialog here or there, but they are never referenced by name nor are their roles significant.

This is the final installment of L8wrtr’s Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. Building on the improvements to characters, relationships and motivations made in his edits of Episodes I & II, Dawn of the Empire creates a subtle but more realistic and tragic fall from grace for Anakin. This edit provides a more comprehensive and emotionally charged conclusion to the Prequels in preparation for the Original Trilogy.
