Knowing how many different takes there are on The Phantom Menace - and has been since 1999 (!), what stood out for me very clear since the beginning, apart from a bunch of what I thought were brilliant ideas that could work - was to make it different. Not make it a Fanedit, but a FanFix - more of a remake, if you will. Only then could it actually be worth many years of my time.

I grew up with the love of Star Wars and the excitement around The Phantom Menace and the prequel trilogy, but I never felt the magic stay with me for The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones (and to a degree RotS as well) as it did with the Original Trilogy. This was the red herring that made me interested in the creation and intellectual process behind the making of TPM, that made me realize the lost potential and go for a search on how to make it work. And thus The Ancient Lore was born.

I love the original Star Wars trilogy (minus the later "special-edition"-changes), but I never could get into the prequels. The story of how Anakin became Darth Vader and how the sith could turn the republic into an empire is of some interest and has its value, but how it was told left me disappointed. For one I felt that three movies was just too much, many scenes felt superflous to me, some characters were downright unbearable, too much pointless action that diminished the power of the important action scenes...

But most importantly Hayden Christensen's Anakin was arrogant and unsympathetic from the get-go, which made me not care for his eventual downfall. With this edit, I attempt to salvage the interesting aspects of the prequels and to improve character motivations and development and to create a story arc that makes sense as a single movie.

Heavy Star Wars takes the existing action and adventure, trimming away unnecessary story/action/bad acting, and replaces the soundtrack with Rock music!

The first of the revamped '9000 series', Cloak of Deception delivers a re-crafted perspective on Star Wars Episode I in keeping with the drive of the original trilogy of films. Unnecessary 'galaxy shrinking' cameos from classic characters have been cut down or removed. Anakin is depicted as a more mature and capable figure an audience can identify with. Jar Jar is recast as an everyman caught up in events outside his control who does his part in the fight for freedom, rather than a traitorous clown.

The Silent Menace is The Phantom Menace completely re-imagined and re-written based entirely on the visuals and John Williams score. All dialogue is removed and replaced with subtitles, allowing for a new script, many new story elements, new character development (including backstories for major characters), and new relationships between the characters. Cutting and reordering footage allows for more logical and connected action sequences. The soundtrack is replaced by the John Williams score from The Phantom Menace, plus individual tracks from other Star Wars movies.

After 10 years it's about time I could watch the Star Wars Prequel trilogy without feeling physical pain, damn it!. But not just that, they should be out and out pleasures to watch!

...and so the idea for 'Star Wars: Reborn' arrived.

This fanedit is much more streamlined than the original movie, and is not bogged down by superfluous plot points, asinine humor, or amateurish acting. The edit is also more evenly paced, without being too action-driven.

“Star Wars: Renascent” is the first of a three-film fan-edit which tells story of Luke and Anakin Skywalker, simultaneously. The three films will mainly follow the storyline of the Original Trilogy and will have flashbacks to the Prequel Trilogy. It will feature new scenes, altered story lines, and will also feature some new music, which is why it’s a rebirth or a Renascence. This project was first started by two other fan-editors and it is being edited off of the DVD release of the Prequel Trilogy and adywan’s edits of the Original Trilogy.

This extends Episode 1 to its full length. All deleted and extended scenes were masterfully re-integrated into the movie.

Return to a galaxy not mired by politics, complicated plotting, and unfunny CGI characters. Return of the Sith is as close to the spirit of the Original Trilogy as possible.

Right after the famous “The Phantom Edit” came out, another edit of “The Phantom Menace” surfaced, called “The Phantom Re-Edit”, also known as “The Phantom Edit 1.2″ or “The New York Version”.

It was remastered by Magnoliafan. This is a far more extensive edit of the original movie, making Jar Jar into a Jedi-like Sage, maturing up all of the Gungans and tons of minor cuts, edits and changes to pacing throughout.

A very heavily cut, hour long version of The Phantom Menace that removes nearly everything that isn’t narratively relevant, including all Gungans except for Jar Jar and quite a bit of both Tatooine and Coruscant. Everything you need to start off a marathon in a lean hour long package.

This version is for STAR WARS fans who have already seen Episode 1 a few times and have a hard time re-watching the original. This version provides an experience more in line with the original trilogy (at least A New Hope and Empire).

I really want viewers to be able to watch Episodes 1-6, in order, without having key moments in the later films spoiled. Anakin no longer is C3PO’s creator. In fact, C3PO and R2D2 are no longer major (minor?) characters in the PT. They are now just like any other droid. They do have minor dialog here or there, but they are never referenced by name nor are their roles significant.
