WOW! First off, I must start by saying that I am a fan of the Thor movie that we got. That said, Malthus' edit restructures the Thor origin story to make for a totally different viewing experience! I quite enjoyed the first act, keeping the mystery of Thor's Asgardian heritage alive and focusing on Jane Foster's perspective. In many ways, this version feels more like the kind of Thor movie we would eventually get with Ragnarok.

By keeping the story more Earth centric for the first act, the movie fits more seamlessly into the greater MCU, as the familiar element of SHIELD is introduced pretty quickly and serves as an obstacle for our main characters before we are introduced to Loki and the Frost Giants. Then having the second act jump to Asgard helps with making the finale feel even more epic as the story comes full circle.

A few minor gripes: some of the deleted scenes could use some improved sound mixing (there are moments where the score overpowers dialog, and weapons being drawn have no sound effects before the coronation). Also, due to the restructured narrative, the film does start to slow down in the second act. There are a few moments throughout where scenes cut somewhat abruptly, where in the original it would cut from Earth to Asgard, here we cut to another Earth based scene and the pacing doesn't always work as some transitions are a bit jarring.

I still love this as an alternate take on Thor, and know I will be watching it countless more times as I binge the MCU in the future!

I really wanted to love this edit. Let me just say that up front. Also, there were no flaws on the editing side that I really saw, audio or visual either one. The issue for me was that the narrative restructuring didn't quite work. The flashback was too long to work as a flashback and it was awkwardly placed. Maybe breaking up the flashback into a few parts (not exactly sure how that would work, but just an idea, trying to be constructive). The worst thing of all for me was that the added scenes were really good, and I think they added a lot by themselves (especially the coffee mug return, which I think helps sell the character growth) and I would love a simple extended edition including those into the normal narrative.

All in all though, I do recommend the edit. The extended scenes are great and it is interesting to see from a new perspective, even if it did not quite work out the way I would have hoped.

Great fan-edit. The insertion of deleted scenes is seamless, and they really do add a lot to the story and character arcs. The changed structure works well, making the introduction of Asgard and the story of Thor’s exile much more powerful and dramatic.

I am not a huge fan of the Thor comics, and so I don't really have a dog in the fight regarding how well the films follows the canon -- although race-swapping Heimdall was bizarre -- or much investment in The Mighty Thor's mythos generally.

But I've liked this film since I first cracked open my BluRay box, and I like it even more now. This is definitely my go-to version. Thank you.

I really love this edit.

First of all, the editing itself (visual and audio) seemed flawless to me. I didn't notice any jarring cuts from a technical perspective and I find this way of telling the story to be immensely superior to the theatrical cut and has a more traditional rising action in this non-linear format.

I think the narrative makes a surprising amount of sense this way and almost feels like "the original way" the story was meant to flow. I think my only criticism of the narrative is the cut from present day to learning about asgard felt a bit off without a really strong flow and/or connection between the two scenes (Thor's friends coming back and Odin narrating the history of the Frost giants). I think the narration of the frost giants could potentially be placed at the beginning, but that may lose some of the genius of this edit of holding back on the fantastical and allowing us to see Thor purely through Jane's eyes. I think the cut from present day to the past could also cut directly to Odin's speech since Odin referenced as alive is the primary driving force of the cut. Those are purely subjective though and even though I think those ideas could work, they risk a lot of the brilliance of the edit.

I can't say enough about how much better the present day stuff works with this presentation order. It really makes Jane the conduit for the viewer to experience Thor through and it makes them coming to the realization that he is the real deal a shared realization between them and the viewer. great stuff.

Also, almost all of the re-instated scenes really help flesh the world out and I think they are placed at the right moments.

Thanks for this edit, I'm definitely going to put together my personal take on the MCU some day and this edit will likely be part of it :) If you enjoy Thor, you should check this version out.

I enjoyed it because it was Thor, and I understand what the editor was trying to accomplish with this edit, but overall I still prefer the original version, though it was nice to see the deleted scenes.

The edit was well done, though the brief shot of Heimdall crying after Thor failed to lift Mjolnir broke the "is he crazy or is he really a god?" narrative, and the scenes after Sif and the Warriors Three arrived following the Asgard scenes were confusing because of the nonlinear narrative.

Overall, it was an interesting way to watch the movie and a solid effort.
