Brief Synopsis:
This edit featured a restructured narrative and 9 reinstated deleted scenes
Intention:
Thor is a great character but I always found his debut a little lackluster. For me the real issue was the films structure. The choice to front load the movie with huge Asgardian set pieces meant the second act drags. My edit aim was restructure the film and create and air of mystery around Thor. Having proved the concept of this edit with the original SD version of this edit I wished to rebuild it in HD using the blu ray source. This allowed me access to deleted scenes previously unavailable to me

Main aims:

#1 Reorder the narrative
#2 Reinstate several deleted scenes

#1 'Thor: Odinson' is an attempt to maintain an air of mystery around Thor and leave the audience to question whether he truly is the son of Odin. In the original when Natalie Portman finds Thor in the desert she questions where he came from leading the viewer to immediately be shown Asgard in all its glory. This edit will delay that reveal until Lady Sif and the warriors three arrive on earth effectively switching the first and second act.

#2 There are some wonderful deleted scenes which add development to both Thor and Loki. I reinstated nine deleted scenes in this edit.

Malthus has created a great fanedit! He has managed to fix a very mediocre film and has made it much more watchable, fun and unpredictable. His change of the order of acts is incredible and managed to keep me fully entertained until the end. The way he managed to improve the tone of the film and make us wonder whether or not Thor is a god or just crazy guy even though we all already knew the answer is really impressive and exceptionally done. I'd recommend this fanedit over the original film any day of the week and it's the way I'm gonna watch this film, whenever I wanna rewatch MC, from now on. It's still not the best movie in phase 1 of the MCU but it's vastly improved with much needed removed scenes and added deleted scenes. Thank you Malthus for creating one of the best MCU fanedits I've ever seen and I can't wait to see more of your content soon! Take care!

Malthus' stated goal in creating this edit was to craft a narrative worthy of the character of Thor, and in that regard, they handily succeeded. By restructuring the film, they have greatly improved the pacing, as well as the narrative tension. Now instead of it being the story of a god being punished to learn humility, it has become the story of a man thinking himself a god, a god thinking himself a king, before becoming one worthy of both. In addition, as the personal stakes for Thor increased, so did the external threats accordingly from mere humans to the Destroyer. As previous reviewers have said, it almost seems that this story was meant to be told through this narrative chronology, even following script story structure with the first evidence of Thor being who he says he is and transitioning into the second act hitting right around the 30 minute mark with the glimpse of Heimdall. The only possible snag was the Anthony Hopkins narration telling the history of Asgard and the Frost Giants slowed things down slightly, but it wasn't enough to detract from the overall narrative or my overall enjoyment of the film. The addition of the deleted scenes was seamless and added further character development.

I highly enjoyed this edit of Thor and would recommend you check it out. It is probably my preferred version of the theatrical release, and I am excited to see what Malthus has done with the rest of the Thor Saga.

I really wanted to love this edit. Let me just say that up front. Also, there were no flaws on the editing side that I really saw, audio or visual either one. The issue for me was that the narrative restructuring didn't quite work. The flashback was too long to work as a flashback and it was awkwardly placed. Maybe breaking up the flashback into a few parts (not exactly sure how that would work, but just an idea, trying to be constructive). The worst thing of all for me was that the added scenes were really good, and I think they added a lot by themselves (especially the coffee mug return, which I think helps sell the character growth) and I would love a simple extended edition including those into the normal narrative.

All in all though, I do recommend the edit. The extended scenes are great and it is interesting to see from a new perspective, even if it did not quite work out the way I would have hoped.

Glad to finally get around to seeing this after having seen all the praise. Spoiler alert; it's as good as they're saying.

First things first; my ratings are based on criteria specific to me. Can I see it? 10/10. If I don't notice any audio or video edits, 10/10. If the narrative works, 10/10. This film succeeds on all those fronts, so my enjoyment watching the film (NOT how I feel about the source material) is 10/10.

Something tells me that Thor was originally intended to be told in this timeline, rather than what we saw in the theatrical cut. Here, even though I know Thor is in fact a legitimate Asgardian (you'd need to be living under a rock to not know this), the pacing and attempt at keeping mystery makes me care about him a little more than I would have otherwise. I was more captivated here than in Thor 2 (my favorite Thor).

Really interesting fanedit, that tooks a traditional Phase 1 Marvel Movie and makes it much more dynamic and interesting in narrative terms. The technical aspects of the edit are impeccable making it a must see if you enjoy good adventure fantasy films
