Brief Synopsis:
This edit featured a restructured narrative and 9 reinstated deleted scenes
Intention:
Thor is a great character but I always found his debut a little lackluster. For me the real issue was the films structure. The choice to front load the movie with huge Asgardian set pieces meant the second act drags. My edit aim was restructure the film and create and air of mystery around Thor. Having proved the concept of this edit with the original SD version of this edit I wished to rebuild it in HD using the blu ray source. This allowed me access to deleted scenes previously unavailable to me

Main aims:

#1 Reorder the narrative
#2 Reinstate several deleted scenes

#1 'Thor: Odinson' is an attempt to maintain an air of mystery around Thor and leave the audience to question whether he truly is the son of Odin. In the original when Natalie Portman finds Thor in the desert she questions where he came from leading the viewer to immediately be shown Asgard in all its glory. This edit will delay that reveal until Lady Sif and the warriors three arrive on earth effectively switching the first and second act.

#2 There are some wonderful deleted scenes which add development to both Thor and Loki. I reinstated nine deleted scenes in this edit.

I really wanted to love this edit. Let me just say that up front. Also, there were no flaws on the editing side that I really saw, audio or visual either one. The issue for me was that the narrative restructuring didn't quite work. The flashback was too long to work as a flashback and it was awkwardly placed. Maybe breaking up the flashback into a few parts (not exactly sure how that would work, but just an idea, trying to be constructive). The worst thing of all for me was that the added scenes were really good, and I think they added a lot by themselves (especially the coffee mug return, which I think helps sell the character growth) and I would love a simple extended edition including those into the normal narrative.

All in all though, I do recommend the edit. The extended scenes are great and it is interesting to see from a new perspective, even if it did not quite work out the way I would have hoped.

Glad to finally get around to seeing this after having seen all the praise. Spoiler alert; it's as good as they're saying.

First things first; my ratings are based on criteria specific to me. Can I see it? 10/10. If I don't notice any audio or video edits, 10/10. If the narrative works, 10/10. This film succeeds on all those fronts, so my enjoyment watching the film (NOT how I feel about the source material) is 10/10.

Something tells me that Thor was originally intended to be told in this timeline, rather than what we saw in the theatrical cut. Here, even though I know Thor is in fact a legitimate Asgardian (you'd need to be living under a rock to not know this), the pacing and attempt at keeping mystery makes me care about him a little more than I would have otherwise. I was more captivated here than in Thor 2 (my favorite Thor).

Really interesting fanedit, that tooks a traditional Phase 1 Marvel Movie and makes it much more dynamic and interesting in narrative terms. The technical aspects of the edit are impeccable making it a must see if you enjoy good adventure fantasy films

I truly enjoyed the changes in tempo and sequencing. Definitely check it out if you haven't already as this edit does a great job in telling the story from a different perspective and makes you care more for the characters.

I liked the first Thor movie, but haven't watched it in a while. When this movie first came out, I thought it was brilliant - in the aspect of doing a fantasy god superhero movie. And Anthony Hopkins makes everything more dignified. But upon rewatch of the original, I gave it a lot of passes. So, the idea behind this edit seemed interesting.

This movie does help out a lot with this. The seamless editing to bring in the deleted scenes help flesh out a lot that was missing in the original. The editing quality was excellent and I never noticed any audio or visual errors. Top quality considering there was rescoring as well, which was seamless.

The rest is just a matter of personal interpretation. For me, the mystery man angle didn't work as well as I hoped. Maybe its because I know Thor too well now, but the interactions between Thor and humans seems a bit odd and hard to relate too. The original movie shows so much Asgard first, that weird humans don't seem as obvious, especially when we know who they are talking to. But now that it starts as a human movie first, their actions and reactions around a regular guy seem too eccentric. The back and forth scene changes between earth and Asgard help in the original. But that may just be me overanalyzing. The changes to create mystery create other effects too, like Heimdell coming off as more robotic and less stoic, Thor learning that his father is dead has less emotional weight, Loki doesn't seem AS inherently sneaky and Thor doesn't seem AS spoiled at the beginning of his arc.

This a great way edit again that expands ways to tell the story, and I while it might not be my go-to version, it is a refreshingly fun watch.
