Brief Synopsis:
Venom wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. By cutting a few scenes I've been able to tighten the pacing and make it slightly more enjoyable than the theatrical cut.
Intention:
Quicken the overall pacing and remove some of the humor that doesn't land. And to add a couple easter eggs with MCU connections.
Special Thanks:
Sheepish Reviews (coreynotcory) for the initial idea and easter egg edits, Palandrin for watching my first cut and providing important feedback for trimming it further, and ArtisDead for the amazing custom poster!

Cuts and Additions:
- Added fanedit disclaimer warning
- Added MCU opening logo after the LIFE Foundation space shuttle crash
- Cut emergency response to the shuttle crash (moved to later)
- Cut straight from shuttle crash to MCU logo to Eddie Brock being woken up, making Eddie the first character we see on screen.
- Added six MCU easter eggs to the Brock Report montage sequence, including the cellphone footage of Spider-Man in his homemade suit from Civil War, the logos for News Front with Christine Everhart and The Daily Bugle, cameos and more!
- Cut the security guard laughing off Eddie dismissing the fact that he can't park his bike in front of the entrance.
- Carlton Drake's introduction is now the scene where he talks kids on a field trip at the LIFE Foundation. He's less overtly evil from the beginning, so Eddie's allegations in the interview are more surprising to the audience.
- Moved the opening scene of the EMS response to the shuttle crash to after Eddie is fired and dumped.
- Jump from the crash site to the symbiots being delivered to the LIFE foundation, then cut back to show the EMS worker being possessed by Riot, then follow Riot to the village where he transfers into the elderly lady.
- Cut the "Six Months Later" title card and jump straight to the testing of the symbiots on animals in the LIFE Foundation labs
- Jump to the scene of Eddie Brock being depressed in a dive bar- replaced an interview of Carlton Drake on the bar tv with a Newsfront interview that happens to take place in San Francisco...
- Trimmed Eddie and Dr. Skirth in the elevator when she tells him about the LIFE Foundation discovering aliens. As this is now set in the MCU, Eddie would know that aliens are real, since this takes place after the Battle of NY, and wouldn't joke about E.T.
- Trimmed restaurant scene. Added Venom's voice shouting "Hungry!" (taken from a cut scene later) and removed Eddie eating the lobster
- Cut Eddie on the trolly hearing Venom yell "Hungry!" He goes straight home after the hospital scene
- Added Back in Black guitar riff when Eddie is frustrated with his neighbor's loud playing (done by coreynotcory)
- Cut Eddie putting his hands up and down repeatedly. He puts them up once and they stay up
- Trimmed Eddie saying "I'm so sorry about your friend" He just says "I'm so sorry!" now
- Cut the line where Eddie tells himself he has a brain tumor
- Trimmed the bike chase significantly, including cutting the bit where Eddie is launched from the bike and pulled back by Venom.
- The first official shot of Venom is now 56 mins in, as opposed to 59 minutes in the original cut.
- Trimmed Carlton Drake's lines asking Skirth to tell him who she was with, so he's more direct and less whiney.
- Trimmed Eddie's "death" during the final fight against Riot
- Cut the "turd in the wind" line.
- Added "The Marvel Cut" to end credits
- Added my name, Joe Quinn, to the Edited By credits
- Added the extended mid-credit's scene with Cletus Cassidy, which cuts straight to a "To Be Continued" card
- Sped end credits up to 200% speed and replaced the music with the film's score.
- Cut the Into the Spider-Verse teaser at the very end.

This edit was a fun watch. You would be hard-pressed to really notice anything was cut or rearranged. It all worked flawlessly. The picture quality was solid and audio was smooth all the way through.

I must say, I really enjoyed the Marvel 'Easter eggs' included in the movie. I will not spoil them, but they were easy to spot. They were edited into the movie rather seamlessly - I could not tell that they were forced in.

I also thought the editor may have somewhat read my mind regarding the cuts to the humor. In many of these Marvel movies, I like the comedy, but there is a tendency for the 'jokes' to get completely out of control and turn what would be a good movie into a satirical cringefest. The trims made throughout left the movie with a reasonable toned down humor that I enjoyed without crossing the line.

Other cuts that worked well included those that made the characters whine less, which made them appear stronger. I also liked making the primary villain not appear blatantly evil so quickly. The rearranging of a few scenes along with the removal of the ridiculous '6 months later' title card helped improve the narrative structure and the pacing. The title card was never needed - it just ruins the flow of the movie. The audience is better off under the impression that events are moving quickly.

The only real weakness I noted in the narrative was that at the end of the movie several people were being possessed by the symbiote and surviving, which contradicted the near 100% mortality shown to the audience at the beginning of the movie. Is there an editing trick around this? I doubt it, but it is something to take note of.

I want to really thank the editor for this one. As I had a thrill watching this, I will likely revisit this one in the near future. I would strongly recommend this edit to others - particularly those who like some well-timed dark humor mixed in with a fast-paced thriller.

Wow, such a great improvement over the somewhat rocky original version. The original version has such an awkward screenplay that translated into an final product that honestly just didn't feel very good to watch, aside from the thrilling action. There was clearly a perfectly watchable film mixed into the awkward humor and misguided characterization. What Josephdquinn has managed to do here is remove those mood killing storybeats and trim the fat, as they say. I can honestly say that I really enjoyed this version of the film and would highly recommend this version. The seamless inclusion of MCU easter eggs is also a welcome addition here. The quality of the editing is seemingly professional level. At no point do you feel like you're watching a trimmed down version. A good test of this was watching it with my Wife, who had never seen it. She was the perfect "general audience" screening test for this and at no point did she complain about the pacing or editing. Thank you to Josephdquinn for allowing me to enjoy this cut of the film and for the dedication to this project. 10/10 seriously.

First, I must say it was really hard to decide, if to give this edit a perfect 10 or not, since it is a very well done project.

Things that immediately stand out are the pacing of the new opening, very smooth and enjoyable, we get to know the main hero and his relationships gradually before jumping in to the whole symbiote plot. If you can't decide if you want to watch this edit or not, it is honestly really worth it, just for the first half of the film.

The MCU references, the subtle easter eggs and nods to main universe, are done exceptionally in well taste.

The editing is superb, so why 9/10 on visual editing? As I've said in the beginning, I've so little nit picks so couldn't decide if it was even worth lowering the score because of them. Two maybe 7-10 seconds parts felt a little bit "rushed" and paced too fast, after the re-editing, but don't let my subjective opinion fool you. It was only this way, because I've seen the original, all the cuts, trims and re-shuffles, are unnoticeable to the first time viewer, both from technical and story wise angles. And let's be fair the movie has it's own similar problems towards the end, even in the original cut.

Although I've liked some silly, but cut scenes, it honestly didn't affect my enjoyment overall, I can see the benefit of them being cut. Movie still pretrains it's lightheadedness, that's on brand with other Marvel movies.

Moving forward, that will for sure be a definitive version that I will rewatch.

First of all, I would like to thank the editor for the privilege of letting me watch the edit first and for listening to my feedback!

Venom is a film that I watched a couple of times and then I wasn't planning of watching it ever again. I didn't hate it, but there were so many issues with it, especially the ridiculous Marvel humor, that made it unwatchable for me. Enter Josephdquinn! The work he did was incredible. He removed all of the silliness from the movie maintaining its lightheartedness but without being ridiculous. Also, trimming down other unnecessary scenes was also welcome. It's not that this edit completely transformed the movie, but at least now I have absolutely no problem rewatching it without cringing every two minutes.

Another ingenious thing that he did was placing an extra scene (won't spoil it) making it part of the MCU! The way that he incorporated the scene was simply excellent!

Technical-wise it was perfect, all the cuts were seamless! You won't know if there is a cut somewhere even if you look for it.

All in all, the backbone of the movie is still there, so if you hated it, I don't think this edit will do much for you. But if you found the movie to be ok and above, then this edit is definitely for you and I assure you it will be your go-to version in the future!

Thank you Josephdquinn for all your hard work and thanks to anyone who read my review!
