I was one of those people that absolutely despised Prometheus. This version, however, is much more palatable and mysterious, and overall I found I enjoyed it much more.

The new opening using the TED talk is absolutely genius and really ties everything together, along with Shaw's message to Weyland. Not seeing the Engineer until much later really helps in us caring about the characters and their mission. The alternate version of Fifield's attack on the ship was much more effective and ties it in better with the Alien series. The editing is seamless across the board and very well done.

There are still a few things that probably could've been cut. Though moving the Scotland scene and the Engineer on Earth scene works much better than the original cut, I really believe both of those scenes could've been cut entirely. The pacing could've been improved by removing them. There's also a shot of Shaw getting thrown against a wall where she clearly has a wire attached to her, as well as a shot with a few green screen monitors before the effects were added. I assume this is from the deleted scenes, so I can't blame you for not adding the effects, but I personally would've preferred not having these shots at all as they were quite noticeable.

This is probably the best version you'll get of this movie. It's still not perfect and at times rather infuriating, but it is a huge improvement. Kudos to the editor on a job well done!

Prometheus do you see this? Yeah I do, and it's quite an edit! The movie makes sense now, and is serious, and is so clearly a prequel to Alien. I liked the added scenes, particularly Weyland's speech at the start, and how scenes were moved/relocated. Everything was seamless as far as I could tell, video and audio.

There remain some potential improvements in narrative, as others have pointed out. The zombie half mutated guy that gets the blow torch, not really sure where his mutation fits into the creature life cycle. Probably could do without that, just leave it where we last saw him inside the compound with a creature going down his throat.

I really enjoyed this movie now, and look forward to sharing the edit with others.

This is the 5th and best fan edit of any movie I've seen. When Prometheus came out I was looking forward to it but was terribly let down especially as I had missed in in the theatres and figuring I'd like it I bought the blu-ray. The pacing and editing are what I seem to remember putting me off the most. I barely remember watching it and it sits at the bottom of the back of my blu-rays.

Well along comes this edit. What a difference! I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end with just a couple of unavoidable cringe-worthy moments still there. This is the best edited I've seen yet as well - particularly the audio. Seamless. There was a moment in the visual editing that didn't work as great as everything else but I don't even remember the particulars on it anymore.

This is how the movie should have been released to theaters. This is one I'll watch again and again and I am looking forward to seeing more of Severian's work. Excellent!

I'm a huge movie guy and I've been on the site for about a year checking out all the great work all the editors have done. In true cliche fashion, it was Adywan's Star Wars edit that brought me to the site but I've been a devoted follower ever since. I mention Adywan in this review because his edit is what I think a fanedit should accomplish: polishing the rougher parts of a film to make it into something better or something new. Quite like Adywan's edit, Severian has most definitely achieved this feat and in seemingly simple ways.

I've loved the Alien films since I was a kid and Ridley Scott is (maybe used to be at this point) a master of SF. I was so incredibly pumped for the film and then I remember leaving the theater scratching my head. There were so many fantastic ideas in the film, and it looked gorgeous, but it was missing a core experience for me to connect to. Once I saw that an edit had been done for the film, and that Severian seemed to feel the same way about the original cut, I had to check out his edit and I was not disappointed. Here's my breakdown on each category:

The film still looks gorgeous and there were only a few moments where the image was slightly fuzzy.

The visual editing is amazing. I honestly could not tell that this was a fanedit (aside from seeing the original film of course). Every scene was treated with care and the changes all flowed easily into one another. I was also scratching my head at the end of Severian's work but for a different reason: how in the world did he make something so soulless find it's way again so easily? Reading the cut/changes list doesn't do this edit justice. Severian has taken an original work and made it insanely better by adding a real connection to it.

The audio editing is also flawless. I didn't notice any issues in the sound and it played quite well over my surround sound.

Like I've said a few times, I honestly disliked the original cut and Severian delivered an Alien movie that I proudly display next to the first two. I can only hope that Ridley Scott takes a page from Severian's book as he continues the franchies; if not, at least I know Severian will be there to give the fans good films. Honestly, if you liked the original or hated it, check out Severian's cut. The cuts are all flawless and it is impossible to tell that it is a fanedit; this is the version that should have been shown in theaters. Thanks for the experience!

So I couldn't stand Prometheus,
I hated how they apparently had a very simple story but then covered their tracks, cut out information and acted as if it was much more than was actually in the screenplay (sadly reminding me of Lost all over again).

What Giftbearer does is making things more clear - and less dumb.
I can't say I now like Prometheus now as a movie and while it is a much improved version I still wouldn't have been excited seeing this in cinemas.
The storyline is a very simple one and coming from Lost I tend to eyeroll whenever Lindelof adds stuff to make it seem as if there is more going on in this story.
BUT this version is much more honest about its intention.
While I still hate the entire idea of the angry engineer because Weyland thought of himself as a god at least it now is in the movie and clearly is the message of the film. The movie no longer pretends to be ambitious. it is a clear story about human greed and aliens being angry at us because of it.

There was one awkward use of the flashback to the engineer after Rapace's husband was killed but aside from that most of the rearranging worked just fine.

I still hate the complete disregard for biology (DNA 100% match) and some over the top characters but mostly this edition fixes many problems and presents Prometheus as the straightforward simple story that it was.

Congrats to the editor for a fantastic editing job and superb quality!
