As soon as I saw this I knew I had to give it a shot as anything is better than the original and I wasn’t disappointed. Many characters are seemingly redeemed and seem to be more themselves which was more than refreshing. As a newer viewer I don’t know if I view as critically as others but if I don’t notice any flaws the edit is solid to me and I noticed zero. My only complaint is that they didn’t give enough to work with as the story is semi flawed and a little inconsistent. Overall I thought the edit was great and far beyond the original! Thank you!

almightycutie attempts to take Seasons 7 + 8 of GoT and turn it into one solid ending season by jettisoning all the material that didn't work. This means that much of S7 is left intact while much of S8 is cut, in particular all the bits that made previously clever and resourceful characters into plot devices. Tyrion is still smart, Sansa isn't so relentlessly bitchy, and Dany doesn't betray her core principles because she's not getting that Jon Snow D.
The key change is amazing in how well it works, so much so that it almost seems like it would be better if GRR Martin wrote it this way. AC flips the order of events to that Dany deals with her fight with Cersei first, then comes to aid the North in a final battle against the Night King. This reframing allows many characters who met certain fates to have different ones now that the Battle of Winterfell is the culmination of the story. AC does an impressive amount of additional effects-work to try to weave the structure of this together and to refocus the narrative in a believable way, and I think the majority of it works very well. I left in-depth comments on the edit's actual page: https://forums.fanedit.org/threads/game-of-thrones-complete-seasons-7-8-edit.19047/post-385712

Overall, there's nothing in this that screams "I Am a FaNEdit nOT thE ReAL thINg", so it's definitely a workable replacement for S7 and S8 of the actual show, if you're a fan. The narrative runs into some structural issues in the last few episodes though, and I think it needs a Version 2.0 to really give a satisfying ending to fans. Perhaps like the many Hobbit edits, this first GOT one will show the way and provide a platform to build off of and just get even better. It's an incredibly ambitious accomplishment, and I look forward to what AC does next!

When I spent a considerable amount of money on the entire 4K boxed set of Game of Thrones to watch it in one go after initially missing the boat when the series first aired, I felt blown away by the world and the characters. Unfortunately, the quality of the show came to a sharp dip when the final two seasons ground my hype to a fine powder, unraveling pretty much everything I loved about the show. I was immensely excited when I learned that my fanediting hobby converged with one of my favorite TV series, so I had to check this out. In the end, it definitely delivered.

As long as you temper your expectations for what to expect, you should have a great time watching this edit. Of course, if your expectations were already in the mud from the original handling of the show, that should be sufficient for you to appreciate an undertaking of the scope that this one has. Narratively it feels much more true to the spirit of the show, and although I have quibbles here and there about specific decisions that were made, it's hard to deny that the end product is a much better alternative all around. In particular, the rearranging of key events and character development arcs are all coherent and stronger for being arranged this way.

This is one of my favorite edits because it salvaged one of my favorite pieces of media. It's not what I would consider perfect - because one can only do so much with what one has available - but at certain points it comes damn close. It gave me a satisfying send-off, and there were several points in the narrative's development that I got legitimate goosebumps and sat in awe. Without getting into spoiler territory, certain events that happened in the new version were everything that I could have wanted from the series.

Great job all around. I'm really glad I watched this.

This is my first review on this site. First off, thank you very much for the copy of this edit. I really enjoyed the changes you made to the plot and narrative. I thought you made excellent use of Brans powers, and used him far better than they did in the original plot. Some of the cuts were a little rough, but that’s probably because I know the source material pretty well. And the ending felt a little bit confusing because of the cuts from location to location, but I wouldn’t take away anything from you, because you can’t refilm the whole thing. Thanks for your hard work, I really enjoyed it.
