Wonder Woman: The Excellent Adventure Edit

I didn't like WW84 when I saw it, and watching it again with a critical eye before this edit, I liked it even less. The pacing is a mess, the tone bounces between overwrought and goofy, and just overall the movie is just a missed opportunity.

So I came into this edit expecting better, but not really hoping for anything great. And then the opening scene set to Material Girl started up, and I was hooked. Really, the whole movie benefits immensely from the more bombastic style each song presents.

The editing also in this movie is great. If I hadn't just watched the original I doubt I would have noticed any cuts, and even with my knowledge there were plenty of times that I couldn't even remember what went because of how seamlessly it worked. And between then cuts and the music, this movie actually gave me moments of emotions, and the final moment where Lord removes his wish actually gave me some goosebumps.

All in all, I think Wakeupkeo has delivered the best version of this movie that is possible. I can't wait to make my way through the rest of his DCEU edits.

A very clever and sensible tweak to a film that had a lot of potential. Love the music. Loved cutting the Steve body-swapping out.

Would have loved to see Barbara's transformation happen at the end, as an epilogue, versus how the film did it.

Still very well done.

Very Good!

This is an utterly fantastic concept for a fan-edit and I applaud wakeupkeo for it! WW84 was sorely lacking in period appeal and this remedies that to a large extent. In terms of story, pacing, visuals and tone, this edit is a knockout and lets the Silver-Age silliness of the plot sit next to the Bronze-Age cold war setting in spectacular fashion. And considering how much was cut out, the fact that I didn't notice a single missing element (besides the completely unneccessary Themyscira flashback) tells you something about how bloated the original picture was.

However, I have some quibbles and/or suggestions: it seems at times like the song placements are a bit arbitrary, not leading into-and-out-of scenes, but instead dropped into sequences with one song after another, rather than letting the music dictate the shape and pacing of the scene (the back-to-back songs in the mall sequence) or with (the excellent) Killing Joke track playing over a couple of separate, unrelated scenes.

Also, while I wholeheartedly applaud the choice to excise the creepy body-snatching aspect of Steve Trevor's return, my girlfriend and I both bolted upright in shock when he returned, despite having seen the original film. In a way that's a good thing (hey, re-surprises are rare!) but the pacing of the scene didn't prepare us for that reveal in any way, so a bit more smoothing into Trevor's appearance might be desired.

Lastly, it felt as if there were a few long stretches without any 80s music, and when the hook of the edit is cheeseball rock, I want to have my cheeseball socks rocked off. Not a criticism per se, but just that I wanted more of my favourite aspect of the edit.

(Speaking of cheesy, I loved the title card explaining Max's fate, although it stuck out a bit that he was the only character who got one... maybe a second pass where each character gets one? Including over the Lynda Carter sequence? Just a thought.)

In all, this edit is very highly recommended, it's well worth a watch and elevates WW84 from "unwatchable" to "ridiculously great fun" -- and in my estimation it's just a couple of tweaks away from being of the most sublime fan edits out there.

I enjoyed WW84 considerably more than the average moviegoer apparently did. To me it felt a lot like a throwback to those boldly random Silver Age stories from DC, and the closest thing to the Donnerverse that the DCEU has given us so far (I guess that if your idea of a DC movie is the grim downer Snyder style, you'll of course hate this one). There was, however, considerable room for improvement. The script did reek of first draft, the editing reeked of assembly cut, the nonsensical plot holes were there, all true. And all, all that was fixable at least (Asteria's armor is only there to sell t̶o̶y̶s̶ adult collectible limited edition action figures, for starters), is fixed here, and then some. The 80s songs, all awesomely picked, are just the icing on the cake. And I particularly appreciate a certain easter egg that fans of the original incarnation of Maxwell Lord (before DC ruined the character forever) will find to be a wish come true without resorting to the Dreamstone.

I suppose that if you absolutely hated this movie unedited, you'll only hate it a bit less in this form. But if you liked it at least a bit, this will probably become your default version, as it has become mine.

Overall, creatively and technically this edit is indeed excellent. There's nothing bogus about it. Watch this edit, party on, and be excellent to each other!
