This is a shining example of why I love this community. I cannot say much that hasn't been covered before. You have saved this film and I have recommended it to so many that did not care for the original. Thank you for your work.

Wow! I just finished watching Severian's debut fanedit and am absolutely blown away by the result of his work! I enjoyed the original theatrical release for it's sumptuous aesthetics and foreboding sense of mystery but ultimately left the theater feeling unsatisfied by the open-ended narrative and lack of character development. Giftbearer resolves my qualms about the original by delivering a better paced storyline, a clearcut arc to the plot, and a vastly improved presentation of the motivations behind the actions taken by the various characters. Severian has managed to artfully piece together a nearly perfect blend of theatrical and deleted materials to create a film that simply makes more sense and left me feeling satisfied.

The excellent quality of the editing in general cannot be overstated. The visuals are practically flawless. The sound mixing was also superb except for a single scene where the volume drops pretty low for a few seconds. This happens to be during the one sequence that I didn't think worked as well as the editor intended. Dr. Shaw's dream after her lover's death struck me as being out of place. I could accept the inclusion of the couple's conclusive discovery of the artifacts that led the team to the alien planet. However, the scene showing the creation of life on earth from the DNA lent by the death of the Engineer definitely seemed out of place at this point in the story. I didn't even know this scene was intended to be part of Shaw's hallucinations until I read the editor's notes after I'd finished watching the movie. Fortunately, this scene in NO WAY detracts from the overall impression left by the film!

I believe Prometheus: Giftbearer is a perfect example of what makes fanedit's so very fascinating and fun to watch. Thank you, Severian! I look forward to your next project!!

I am not a good reviewer. I just know what I like and what I dont like. For me, this fanedit replaces the theatrical release. Permanently. I got the theatrical for Christmas and watched it once prior to watching this fanedit. I will never watch it again for pleasure. Thank you for the vast improvement. There are a few very small cuts I would still like to see, but they are a matter of personal taste. This fanedit is one of my favorite fanedits of all time. Thank you for rescuing this film for me.

This was a pretty cool take on what I originally thought was a great movie and later a confusing one and finally a movie that leveled out somewhere in the middle of my "favorites" scale. The best thing it had going for it was its connection to Alien. I went into Giftbearer with great hope that some things might be cleared up and some of the extras would be used the right way. While I'm not sure anything was really cleared up, the extras were definitely used the right way.

THINGS THAT STOOD OUT:

1. The TED talk scene- I really like this set up scene. It is a great explanation of who Weyland is and what his aspirations are. I thought about it's placement and where I would put it instead. Not sure if there is a better spot. Perhaps I would put it after the discovery of the ruins, but to each his own. Maybe what I would do is show the scientists finding the ruins, do the TED talk, and then bring them back to the crew getting ready to leave. Anyway, no big deal.

2. Moving the opening alien scene- Probably not a bad idea. I think it is important, but not necessarily where it was. I like how it was used later.

3. The extra dialogue scenes- beautifully woven back into the movie. All cool. All needed. Great job.

4. Audio between Noomi's dream sequence and the next sequence- You'll know it when you hear it. It goes from no sound to abrupt music. I'm no pro, so I don't know what I'd do there, but it is the one time I think I was aware something had changed.

Perhaps what I liked best is that you didn't really change the movie and what it is about, but rather added to the story. I never thought it was bad before. Now I just think it is better.

This edit is a perfect example of why i love fanedits so much. Severian's take on Prometheus is the film I wished we had seen in cinemas. The film is dramatically improved thanks to the inclusion of the excellent deleted/extended material, but there are many other editing choices that also enhance the experience.

The characters are better fleshed out, the pacing is stronger, the most offensive and idiotic moments have been either removed or fixed (only two moments come to mind where the seams were visible, but nothing too major), and the film feels more assured as a result.

A couple of the newly included scenes contain slightly unfinished effects shots, but in comparison to the original scenes, those included in this edit are superior.

The film still retains a good level of mystery, but now feels more satisfying and complete. There are few fewer loose ends, and the encounter with the Engineer is much better handled than in the original.

Highly recommended. This will be a fanedit I show to many people to try and get them interested in our particular craft.

Congrats Severian, and thanks for making this. Looking forward to the Bluray release whenever you get around to it!
