Taking the moronic controversy out of the equation, I was not a fan of 2016's Ghostbusters. I hated it, if I'm being honest. Its humor, its characters, its story, its visuals, none of it really worked for me and it angered me something fierce. But as time went by, I felt like maybe I was a bit too harsh on it. Out of curiosity, I decided to check this edit out and, much to my shock, I quite liked it. Almost every change made is for the absolute better. Not only does removing a large majority of the improv, pop culture references, and filler it keep the story focused and have it flow much more naturally and move at a much smoother, less bumpy pace but it also allows the humor to come from the characters, much like the original Ghostbusters films. The characters, especially Erin and Abby, are also more likable and compelling with the improv and out-of-character lines and scenarios -- i.e. especially the dreadful Bill Murray subplot -- being cut out. Even Rowan, as a villain, works much better here, as the changes and edits made allow Paul Feig and Katie Dippold's deconstruction of toxic masculinity to actually have a chance to shine. This is such a significant improvement upon the original cuts it's not even funny. If you want to see a better-realized version of this take on the property, I say give this a watch.

I won't waste time explaining how disappointed I was in "Girly Ghostbusters". It was poorly written, too goofy and the CGI was cartoonish. TM2YC expertly removes all the atrocious improv humor and gives these characters more dignity. The flick is still not my cup of tea, but this version is much more bearable.

Serious major props to TM2YC for his editing skill. There are a bajillion cuts and all of them are invisible.

This is by far my favorite fanedit that i have watched. Though i heard allot of negative backlash about the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, i still decided to give it a shot. In my opinion it's just an awful mess. It's not just the narrative, but the awful jokes and the awful new hip-hop version of the Ghostbusters theme music. Makes me wanna gag.

This version cut out allot of unnecessary filler jokes that made it into the final cut and brought back the original Ray Parker Jr Ghostbusters Theme. Scenes with the main villain of the movie have been cut and restructured so he feels allot more evil and less like a Scooby Doo villain as in the original.

While the cheesy blue CGI ghosts are still there, i gotta admit, i really didn't mind those as much as i did allot of the poor "dialogue" that they gave Leslie Jones' character in the original. The stupid comeback lines and general stereotypical over the top female character that she plays, is one type of character that i simply cannot stand, be it in movies, tv-series or video-games.

However the character isn't Leslie Jones fault, but rather a combination of poor writing and poor editing. With this edit i actually manage to find her character very enjoyable and the dialogue that she has left in this version, which is closer to the original script, is genuinely funny.

I didn't think anything could make me return to this movie again, but this version made me really open my eyes to how much a fanedit can do for a movie. Will diffidently be recommending this edit and can honestly say i enjoyed it enough to want to watch it again.

Let me start by saying I am one of those who went into Ghostbusters (2016) with a negative perspective, I didn't like the humor I had seen in the trailer, I didn't like the way that people were attacking those who disliked the movie and saying that they were MRAs or women haters or whatever. The cultural milieu had turned me off from the film. Let me also say that this is the first fanedit I have knowingly watched.

Eventually I was gifted a copy of the Extended Release on Ultra-Violet (vudu.com) and finally about 6 months ago I reluctantly sat down to watch it. My complaints about quality of jokes, the statements like "enslaving elephants", the one note portrayal of men as either dumb, malicious, and/or conniving, and the movie just felt like a drag. I distinctly remember disliking how Leslie Jones' character was portrayed, and disliked Murray's cameo, as it felt like he was directed to just be an arse. Anyway, enough about why I didn't like the original.

Almost all of my complaints are resolved by this edit. TM2YC has created a movie that I actually enjoyed, I walked away having actually laughed, enjoying the story, and also not actively disliking the main characters, I actually kindof liked the characters now. The removal of terrible one-liner jokes like "Once you pop", the second slap to McCarthy's character, cutting down Hemsworth's I'm a complete fool act, made it so that the true jokes really shine. Shortening the capture at the metal show made it so much better, I hated the "lady thing, race thing" joke. Now the humor comes from the characters, like in the original GhostBusters movies, not from bad jokes said at the bar with friends. A few issues remain, but like other reviewers I understand, and see, that this is inherent to the source...e.g. the throwback to Moranis' character in the original trying to access the restaurant while being chased by "dogs", in the original it made sense for his character and for the look of the restaurant, in GB2016 it makes Wiig's character look like a dunce when she is supposed to be a, formerly, respected scientist.

I have a few edit issues, but I understand that they are inherent to the source material. The, "Horizontally flipped two shots of guide after hand burning, to better match new cuts," it is noticeable that he is nursing the wrong hand, but that issue is acceptable when it protects from crossing the line as we move to the run down the hallway. I also might have suggested hiding one of his two sighs around the candlestick (3:24-3:31) if possible, with less time spent it seems like a forced sigh. I do love making him into a "straight" man and removing the candlestick lever. The other issue I have is with the metal show, while I love the removal of bad jokes and cameos, it is hard to see how they got into position after the initial line on the stage. Again, this is due to the lack of source to work with and does not stick out while viewing the movie.

Thank you again TM2YC, you have made GB2016 actually enjoyable. And thank you for more GB theme music, less rap.

This is the best version the 2016 Ghostbusters! The extended version was overly long with too many jokes going too long. The theatrical version was shorter, but TM2YC shows that they cut out the wrong bits.

Is this perfect? No, but that's because of the available material.
Did I want to see Bill Murray? Yes, but he was rightly cut. His main scene was frustrating: Murray's character was tedious and flat, and to move the plot forward he made Erin release the ghost which a smart serious scientist wouldn't do! Murray on-TV scene makes no sense without the in-person follow-up, so I agree that had to go too.

The editing is flawless. There were only two transitions which jumped out at me. Their capture of the concert ghost was over unexpectedly fast. No issue with any individual cut, rather the pacing of that story line felt too fast.
The other was their arrival at City Hall after the concert-ghost capture. I blinked and they were in the mayor's office. That felt jumpy, but I concede it's the best cut possible. I viewed the transition several times, in this edit and the extended version, and I could not figure out a better way to cut it (unless someone can change the background when the federal agents tell the Ghostbusters to come see the mayor, from Chinatown to the concert venue).

TM2YC improves the story, jokes, and timing. This is a winner.
