So, i was quite excited to see a miniseries take on The Batman for more digestibility and some narrative improvements.

Narrative:
The overall tone of it doesn´t reinvent the exploration of the story, but that is fine and i didn´t thought it was Dons intention to do so. Therefore if you liked the original movie and structure you will be pleased to tread known waters. It´s worthwile.

As far as the format of a miniseries go it´s a hit and miss for me, personally - visual and narrative editing:
- Vol.1 started with the narration of Batman and his crime fighting, which is a far more compelling entry for this series then the murder of the mayor. Nice switch there and good placement of the title sequence after the cold open.
- Vol.2.3.4: i thought the cold opens didn´t work. Not necessarily narrative-wise but the length. 7-10 minutes for an opening of follow up episodes before a title sequence would work if the movie would´ve been shot as a series. But it wasn´t and the movie story structure doesn´t really give enough room to tell it lke that unfortunately, in my opinion.
The ending of vol.3 with Batman visiting the Riddler in prison (raise of the roller blind) is a perfect one because the third installement has the deleted joker scene in the beginning.
Unfortunately vol.4 doesn´t pick upon of the ending of vol.3 and starts with cementery scene of Selina and Batman, when it should´ve with Riddler and Batman, in my view.

Audio Editing:
Seemless cuts and rescoring. Technically without flaws.
The rescored scene with Bruce and Alfred in the hospital is a nice idea, although i found it a bit too sad and loud in a technical sense.

Verdict:
Overall it was a nice edit and well done work editing-wise. But which doesn´t really work as a series i´m afraid.
I appreciate the created title cards and that the edit was done in UHD as well as 5.1 surround.

Hands down one of the best edits on this website. It doesn't even feel like a movie anymore, it feels original and different. 10/10

Absolutely brilliant. Seamlessly and professionally done. I always felt The Batman should have been a mini series on HBO Max due to it's lengthy runtime and this edit perfectly demonstrates that. Don gives us a slow burner of a noir-crime thriller slowly unraveling over four episodes. This is probably the closest I felt to when i was watching Daredevil series on Netflix in 2015, something about this edit just restored the feeling from that show. I loved the credits score (from the OST) and the title cards, everything is consistent and compliments the aesthetic and theme of the film perfectly. Speaking of the film itself, I actually prefer the sequencing and ending here more than the original. Finally the video (4K ) and audio quality (5.1 sound) is impeccable, especially for TV, but i'd also love a smaller file size in 1080p for personal devices so i can watch it wherever/whenever lol. I certainly recommended this edit if you weren't totally sold on the original movie (for its runtime etc) or if you're looking forward to the two spin-off HBO Max shows and craving something in the same vein then this edit will complement them nicely in the future. Great work, DonKamillo.

This is my preferred way to watch The Batman.

Which is crazy, because what I wanted most from a fan edit of this film was for it to be shortened and this series is essentially the same length as the original film.

But just about everything is improved in my opinion. If there's one thing I like in my TV series it's a good intro and DonKamillo obviously agrees with the sentiment because every episode starts off so intriguingly. Seriously, the fact that the intro of the movie wasn't Batman's monologue and him beating down the subway thugs is crazy.

I couldn't notice any issues with the editing. Every episode has a great pace that neither over stays its welcome nor feels too chopped up.

This is a great fan edit. I'm very interested to see if DonKamillo decides to recut this series with the new deleted scenes from the Blu Ray release.

But mostly I'm just interested in whatever they decide to edit next.

First off thanks DonKamillo for making this a thing as this mini series was what The Batman movie should have been. I had difficulty seeing the movie through to its end even after a second determined viewing finding it much to slow to get any enjoyment out of the way the story was being told. DonKamillos 4 part series makes The Batman much more accessible narratively as the dark detective uncovers more about the situation around him per episode you find yourself more invested in the characters.

The editing and episode intros are floorless, nice work DonKamillo. The only thing I would say though is I found there to be some on scene artefacts and colour banding around a few of the darkest scenes as well a green tint to the series which gave an unnatural light to the shadows (also found in the original film!) when watching through the intended 16-235 limited colour range setting.

As DonKamillo only has 4k HEVC versions I needed to convert the files into 1080p h264, as I'm not able to play 4k HEVC without films stuttering. While converting I played around with colour grading to remove the green tint which removed most of the colour banding and the results are subtle seem more natural, comparison image examples here: https://forums.fanedit.org/threads/the-batman-year-two-miniseries.24857/post-399813

I spent a bit more time then most with DonKamillos The Batman: Year Two Miniseries when converting and colour grading and so was able to enjoy every bit of his quality edit, Well done DonKamillo look forward to your other projects.
