Lantern51 has accomplished something I thought impossible, he made me like this movie!

Which is no mean feat, for as much as I love Andrew Garfield, I found both his Amazing Spider-Man films to be tonal messes and unnecessary re-imaginings so soon after Raimi's trilogy. The first one, Peter Parker was completely unlikeable for me and in Part Two, the movie was bloated with franchise building rather than focused on telling a good single story.

But Lantern51 fixed all the problems I had with Part One, thus I should not have been surprised that he was able to work his magic on Part Two.

This is a much tighter story with clear narrative through line. Considering the limitations of the original story parameters, I think Lantern has elevated the story remarkably well. He has made both villains more tragic and threatening. This is particularly impressive with the Harry/Goblin story arc, since this did not work for me in slightest in the original movie. But now, with the changes made, I can at least buy into it.

The new ending works SPECTACULARLY. It has an emotional resonance that was desperately missing from the original. To hear that iconic dialogue "..with Great Power comes Great Responsibility" definitely gave me the FEELS!

One of the big reasons this new version works so well is the Audio Work -- WOW! The scale and scope of the audio removal/replacement/rebuilding is staggering. New music! Extensive new Foley and SFX rebuilding. As a Fan Editor, I know how hard this is. And what Lantern has done needs to be recognized and applauded. Knowing the limitations and weakness of Audio Removal Software, I did not drop any points for the rare audio pop or minor score bleed or voice pitch change, as they did not detract from the immersive experience.

The re-inserted deleted scenes are all very well done. Some required colour correction to match the other main film and I think Lantern has done a great job in this area.

A really good fan edit. The hard work and passion is evident in every scene. Lantern51 should be very happy with their accomplishment. Well done!!!!

I've never been so wrong in my life. I mean, I have been following and enjoying the work of Lantern51 for a while now and he has done quite a few highly remarkable edits, including the first Amazing Spider-Man... but that was a movie I already liked to begin with, while I had long dismissed TASM 2 as just plain awful, so I expected it to be improved to a degree only, as not much, I thought, could be made with it.

How wrong I was. Turns out that TASM 2 did have a good movie at its core. And this edit has revealed it. I found myself unexpectedly LOVING this, so much that if it had been released this way to theaters it'd actually be near the top of my favorite Spidey movies.

Once layers and layers and layers of garbage at all levels (not sure how many of those can be attributed to executive meddling, which this movie famously suffered from highly, and how many to Marc Webb himself, but I digress), turns out that there's a story with a LOT of heart underneath. The movie is now primarily about the relationship between Peter and Gwen, which is touching, sad, sweet, and tragic all through. And her fate is even more heartbreaking than ever, since this time around I was actually caring.

On the villain side of things, the feel of this cut is now that Harry is the main villain, with Electro sidelined to a "dragon" role. Which makes a lot of sense, as Harry is the one personally connected to Peter and the one that in the end is responsible of you know what. I still think Dane DeHaan is a less than ideal choice for the role, but works well enough. As for Jamie Foxx, he always had the potential to be a magnificent Electro (as he demonstrated in No Way Home), but was saddled with a goofy approach by the filmmakers. The removal of the goofiness has the side effect of putting the focus away from him, but given what was there in the original, let it be this way. This movie, like almost every superhero movie, had too many villains to begin with.

What you WON'T find in this edit: goofy Max Dillon, truncated subplots that go nowhere, dubstep themes for Electro, or clichéd Strauss music for the mad scientist that I still refuse to call Dr. Kafka. Speaking of the music, this has been an elephantine effort at audio replacement, and given the circumstances of having to run a lot of stuff through audio separation AI, it came out remarkably well. It's true that it may not have a totally professional bells-and-whistles sound after all this work (and to be honest the volume is somewhat too low all through), but given the tremendous work it took, it's probably is the best that can be done outside of getting raw unmixed audio files, and my rating is adjusted accordingly. Also, the replacement songs all work really great and fit the character and the mood.

As one of said songs, which can be heard over the closing credits, says, "change can be amazing". And in this case, it is. I don't know if it's a silk purse out of a sow's ear or the silk purse was always there and needed to have the sow's ear removed. Anyway, along with Part 1, this is highly recommended to all Spidey fans. Again, Excelsior!

Thank you for previewing this before release! With the amount of work that went into it, I knew I would overlook things.

Narratively speaking, you did a really great job on making the movie as enjoyable and logical as possible. It's less edgy, less cartoonish and no longer having terrible motivations for the villains (particularly, Electro). I also appreciate the rescore for the most part, it's an interesting aspect to notice after I did a rewatch on the TC. But one thing that always stuck out for me was the sound effects for Electro's powers. I mean, not trying to be rude here, but why did you have to change it? It kinda always sounds out of place and not quite believable to me. It does get progressively better in the third act tho. Back to the narrative, ending the movie with the deleted funeral scene serves a nice bookend for the duology, now I can watch both of the movies without having to see any of the pointless franchise baits lol. Overall, aside from my gripes with the sound effects for Electro, I still think that this version is A LOT better than the TC, I can tell that you have put a lot of work into this and i really appreciate it. I'll definitely give this a rewatch later for future occasions :)

Hi, and thank you for the review. To answer your question really quick, the reason for the change in sound FX on Electro was a byproduct of removing the EDM music. There wasn't a way to keep the sound FX and rescore the movie. If I could it would have made this edit a LOT easier LOL...

Recently rewatched TASM 2 before watching this edit and I can definitely see why it had and has it’s detractors and why it had been blotted from my memory for so long as I found that the writing made it really hard to care about the actual characters, that and the amount of plot threads occurring all at once made it feel like it could almost be two or three movies. I definitely agree with you on Max being rather pathetic and the tone feeling rather cartoonish and quite frankly I think you handled both aspects way better than the actual movie as the comedic moments were better timed and spaced out allowing each gag time to breath and sink in with the audio edited gag in the store being a personal favourite of mine though as for Electro.

In terms of his improved characterisation he feels less like a cartoonish butt hurt Spider-Man fanboy and more of a victim of unfortunate and misunderstood circumstances with some sombre psycho vibes to boot thanks to the use of those piano pieces accompanying his body language and facial expressions, I know he heard demented voices in his head in the original though I feel like more of these were added in but perhaps I am misremembering this narrative aspect though either way there inclusion along with the music tone and alteration throughout both fights really gave him a powerful presence.

The eventual presence of this versions iteration of the second Green Goblin was setup and masterfully brought fourth steadily thanks to the incorporation of the deleted and extended scenes with the battle suit scene being an excellent way to foreshadow his eventual intervention into the films final act, the extended transformation sequence is legitimately awesome and terrifying. For all the faults that the original TASM 2 has I feel they definitely portrayed the transitional psycho aspect really well which has been naturally enhanced further in this edit.

Other aspects that have been enhanced through this edit are definitely Peter’s chemistry with the side cast and main cast which is one of the things I really love about the comics as well though as to the handling of them in this edit Harry and Peters friendship feels more genuine thanks to the added scenes in addition to the scenes involving them that were already there which made the growing rift between them all the more gut wrenching though as for the Peter and Gwen stuff there struggle to maintain there friendship and longing to resume there more intimate relationship feels much more realistic and compelling.

Peter now comes of as a slightly more mature individual who weighs the conviction of his promise more carefully and doesn’t pull a complete 180 degree turn on said promise and of course he comes of as less of a demanding stalker than he was in the original, speaking of Peter and Gwen moments the addition of the clocktower scene in Part 1 not only served as an ominous foreshadowing to Part 2’s clocktower scene but it amplified the emotional intensity of said scene. I legitimately felt a sense of dread in the moments leading up to that gut wrenching snap and the funeral scenes that soon followed not only maintained and carried fourth the despairing tone but elevated it to the point I came close to and probably was struggling to hold back tears.

The alternate ending funeral scene was not only a fantastic way to bookend Part 1 but Garfields acting gave so much power and emotion to said scene and it is such a crime that this was relegated to the deleted scenes section when it should have been in the actual movie though it’s a good thing this edit exists as I much prefer this ending to the actual ending and speaking of which the manner in which you rearranged the Rhino scene and altered the tone of the intro after the recap was a great way to not only begin the edit and improve the films pacing but the choice of music gave the intro a sense of class and served as a reminder of what Spidey’s all about and how crime fighting is for the most part just another casual day for him.

In terms of speed and pacing the cuts between scenes were seamless and felt natural and well I could tell stuff was cut out due to my recent viewing of TASM 2 it didn’t feel as if anything was cut out if that makes any sense, well I enjoyed the Roosevelt Subplot as the whole stuff about Peter’s parents is one of my favourite story arcs in both the comics and Spiderman The Animated Series it’s exclusion from the edit makes perfect sense and as a result there is a greater sense of pace and focus to the overall narrative structure of this multilayered masterpiece.

So my wife and I watched Amazing Spider-Man Part 1 (based on the first movie) a couple of nights ago, and this last night, we watched Part 2....

From the opening scenes, I was INSTANTLY drawn into this movie. The further it went, the more I enjoyed it... so much so, that I liked it even better than Part 1.

I originally picked up the DVDs for both movies close to release date years back, watched them once, was not really drawn into them, attempted to watch them a second time and gave up... they did nothing for me. I would have gladly ignored them if it weren't for the fabulous "No Way Home" and Garfield's appearance in that movie. I suddenly had reason to go back and re-watch these two movies, but I kept putting it off... the movies were simply *meh* in my mind... and then I read reviews for Lantern51's fanedit and it convinced me to give THESE versions a shot...

The first movie is much improved because Peter Parker is improved. He's much more likeable. It's now watchable. But Part 2 is FANTASTIC. No, really, this is a GOOD movie. If you're like me, the 2nd movie was totally forgettable in its original form. Now, every piece of this film is meaningful, dramatic, exciting, or plot-relevant.

You may still walk away from this film preferring the 3 Raimi movies or the latest Tom Holland movies, but what Lantern51 has done here is produce a perfectly enjoyable 2-part Spider-man film entry that you will WANT to re-watch from time to time, ESPECIALLY in a run-up to a re-watch of "No Way Home."

One of the most important aspects of a "good film" is the concentration on the key characters. This fanedit brings the focus where it belongs, and that is PRIMARILY on Peter Parker and Gwen's relationship. Every time they are on screen together, the chemistry works. Of the two films, Part 2 is DEFINITELY my favorite.

There's no point in nit-picking this fanedit because what Lantern51 has produced is so far above and beyond what was released theatrically, you will never want to go back to the original, unless it's to remember how bad it really was.
