The Amazing Spider-Man Part 2 theatrical release was much weaker than part 1. We have much more “filler” content and bloat. That left a lot more room for improvement. I really do believe lantern51 elevated this movie to a good enough quality that I fully intend to rewatch in the future when I go through a Spider-Man marathon.

First and foremost, making Max/Electro a secondary villain was the correct choice in favor of elevating Harry and the Green Goblin. Unfortunately, it does weaken Max’s character development, but this was a necessary sacrifice to elevate the overall quality of the movie. Use of some deleted/extended material to develop Harry’s character were also well done even if at times the footage was of lower quality. I believe a stronger narrative should outweigh perfect visual quality. In addition, I like the fleshing out of the Peter/Harry relationship as it provides connective tissue to the tragic relationship in the Raimi trilogy.

I think the strongest improvement to this movie was the alternative ending where we see Peter’s dad. This was a much better way to close off the Amazing Spider-Man movie series. The theatrical was underwhelming. This was a superior close that even gives us the iconic “With great power comes great responsibility line.” How could you possibly leave that out?

I know some other reviews are critical of changing the music/soundtrack. I cannot comment on that as I simply do not remember because I watched this movie only once before with no intention of watching it again as I did not believe the theatrical was of good enough quality. With that said, I do believe the soundtrack included in the edit is solid. It should not be a dealbreaker here.

Overall, lantern51 elevated Part 2 much more than Part 1 of the edits, and that is largely because Part 2 really needed the improvements to what were a lot of disjointed narratives. On top of that, it really made me like the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man much more, particularly with that alternative ending - much more powerful!

I, again, want to thank lantern51 for sharing these edits. I enjoyed them and recommend others do so as well.

This was a great edit that streamlined it significantly. The villains were much more compelling and the ending was perfect since the series ended there.
One minor criticism is that some of the new music didn’t work for me and I preferred the original score more.

This is a huge step up in quality from part 1. It's really impressive how much work was put into this, especially with the rescoring! It felt like almost every scene was rescored.

Biggest positives of this movie for me are more focus on Harry and less on Max. Though Max's motivations are more unclear, cutting most of his cartoonishness is a big improvement, and his creepiness works perfectly. The deleted scenes flesh out Harry more and build to a much better payoff at the end. With a lot of the fluff cut out of the movie Peter and Gwen's relationship is able to breathe better which makes the ending payoff much more tragic. The ending scene with his dad is great too, I had never seen it before.

Most of the deleted scenes are much higher quality than the ones in part 1. Some of them were noticeable but not distracting. Because of the audio changes across the whole movie you will notice sometimes when the sound effects don't quite match, but you won't notice most of the time unless you are looking for it.

Only negatives would be my personal opinion on some of the added song choices. I don't think all of them matched too well, especially the Lord of the Rings song at the end with his dad.

Just one more commendation for the audio work. While it's not perfect I'm not sure I've ever seen such extensive audio reworking on a fan edit before. Amazing feat!

Fantastic edit of this movie!

So my wife and I watched Amazing Spider-Man Part 1 (based on the first movie) a couple of nights ago, and this last night, we watched Part 2....

From the opening scenes, I was INSTANTLY drawn into this movie. The further it went, the more I enjoyed it... so much so, that I liked it even better than Part 1.

I originally picked up the DVDs for both movies close to release date years back, watched them once, was not really drawn into them, attempted to watch them a second time and gave up... they did nothing for me. I would have gladly ignored them if it weren't for the fabulous "No Way Home" and Garfield's appearance in that movie. I suddenly had reason to go back and re-watch these two movies, but I kept putting it off... the movies were simply *meh* in my mind... and then I read reviews for Lantern51's fanedit and it convinced me to give THESE versions a shot...

The first movie is much improved because Peter Parker is improved. He's much more likeable. It's now watchable. But Part 2 is FANTASTIC. No, really, this is a GOOD movie. If you're like me, the 2nd movie was totally forgettable in its original form. Now, every piece of this film is meaningful, dramatic, exciting, or plot-relevant.

You may still walk away from this film preferring the 3 Raimi movies or the latest Tom Holland movies, but what Lantern51 has done here is produce a perfectly enjoyable 2-part Spider-man film entry that you will WANT to re-watch from time to time, ESPECIALLY in a run-up to a re-watch of "No Way Home."

One of the most important aspects of a "good film" is the concentration on the key characters. This fanedit brings the focus where it belongs, and that is PRIMARILY on Peter Parker and Gwen's relationship. Every time they are on screen together, the chemistry works. Of the two films, Part 2 is DEFINITELY my favorite.

There's no point in nit-picking this fanedit because what Lantern51 has produced is so far above and beyond what was released theatrically, you will never want to go back to the original, unless it's to remember how bad it really was.

Lantern51 has accomplished something I thought impossible, he made me like this movie!

Which is no mean feat, for as much as I love Andrew Garfield, I found both his Amazing Spider-Man films to be tonal messes and unnecessary re-imaginings so soon after Raimi's trilogy. The first one, Peter Parker was completely unlikeable for me and in Part Two, the movie was bloated with franchise building rather than focused on telling a good single story.

But Lantern51 fixed all the problems I had with Part One, thus I should not have been surprised that he was able to work his magic on Part Two.

This is a much tighter story with clear narrative through line. Considering the limitations of the original story parameters, I think Lantern has elevated the story remarkably well. He has made both villains more tragic and threatening. This is particularly impressive with the Harry/Goblin story arc, since this did not work for me in slightest in the original movie. But now, with the changes made, I can at least buy into it.

The new ending works SPECTACULARLY. It has an emotional resonance that was desperately missing from the original. To hear that iconic dialogue "..with Great Power comes Great Responsibility" definitely gave me the FEELS!

One of the big reasons this new version works so well is the Audio Work -- WOW! The scale and scope of the audio removal/replacement/rebuilding is staggering. New music! Extensive new Foley and SFX rebuilding. As a Fan Editor, I know how hard this is. And what Lantern has done needs to be recognized and applauded. Knowing the limitations and weakness of Audio Removal Software, I did not drop any points for the rare audio pop or minor score bleed or voice pitch change, as they did not detract from the immersive experience.

The re-inserted deleted scenes are all very well done. Some required colour correction to match the other main film and I think Lantern has done a great job in this area.

A really good fan edit. The hard work and passion is evident in every scene. Lantern51 should be very happy with their accomplishment. Well done!!!!
