This is a long overdue review since I watched this long ago, I simply forgot to do this. This Extended Edition Fanedit of TASM is great. I watched both this and the Untold Story Edition so I'll be taking about both.

The Extended Edition is the definitive way to watch the film. It lets the film breathe in a way I think it would've had Laura Ziskin been alive to stop Avi Arad from botching it in editing. This is as close to a "Webb Cut" as we have, and improves an already underrated film.

The Untold Story Edition is more complicated, and where I dock points from. If I'm looking at TASM apart from a sequel, as a totally standalone film, this is better. It makes it feel like one complete story. But the second film DOES exist, and because of that I feel the story about the parents should be spread across them. Hell, I would've made it a trilogy-running story arc in the background of the main plots that only exploded in the final third film. And because Masirimso's newest edit of TASM2 cuts out that arc because of this version, it makes the second film feel lopsidedly short compared to this one. A saga should get grander over time, but with these versions it's the first film that has the nearly 3 hour runtime, and the second film with the short 2 hour runtime. Which goes against the tone and style of both films. TASM1 wants to be a gritty focused origin story for the most part, so it should have a runtime under 2.5 hours. While TASM2 is the super ambitious (Too ambitious) film with tons of villains and plot, so it should have the long epic runtime, regardless of the film's execution the runtime fits the tone. TASM2 crams so much story in even without the Parents Plot, it needs more runtime to breathe. And while I haven't seen his new edit, the short runtime puts me off of it. Because honestly if TASM2 is just the other plots strung together, it seems like it might have Rise of Skywalker syndrome of just going from stuff happening to stuff happening. The Parents Plot at least gave us a breather for the most part. It also, if edited differently from Arad's Cut, could be really important for the plot of the film. I know I'm getting into critiquing TASM2 and it's edit here, but the big reason I think the Parents Plot can make sense there is Peter not wanting to give Harry his blood and not explaining why. If edited right, with the Roosevelt scene before that, it could make Peter have legitimate reason to distrust Harry and not want to give him his blood. But if that story is only here in the first film, where it connects even less to the core focused arc, that opportunity is gone. And if there's not a better decision made there, I might just end up sticking with Masirimso's old TASM2 fanedit that still had that story there, even if it's worse quality. I guess what I'd like to see is an option from Masirimso to have the Untold Story back in TASM2 if that was preferred. It can't hurt to have an "Untold Story Edition" for both films in case someone prefers it in one or the other.

This has been some useless ramblings about otherwise fantastic edits.

Let me just start off and say: The Amazing Spider-Man wasn't a terrible movie to begin with. Sure, it had its ups and downs, but it wasn't unwatchable. I wasn't particularly *looking* for a fanedit of it, I just stumbled across it while browsing the internet.

I am so glad that I did.

This edit took a mediocre film and made it far better. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone's performances are able to shine in this edit without the viewer being distracted by the plot. Masirims017 did a fantastic job of weaving the story together with the deleted scenes reinserted and some theatrical scenes removed in order to give the viewer the best experience. I went through the list of edits and was surprised by several of them; I didn't notice certain things in the movie being cut out. It all flowed very nicely. I particularly enjoyed the deleted Dr. Connors scenes. I had always thought he was a very lackluster villain. We never got time in the theatrical cut to really get to know him and to like him. This edit restored that and allowed for us to connect with Connors and Peter and lets them develop a relationship beyond scientist-and-intern. They seem like real friends.

As for the video quality, it's very good. The MP4 was in 1080p HD, and all but one cuts were seamless. (The POV shot added was awesome, but you can tell where the transition back to the theatrical version was because the colors changed slightly. Some color correction would be in order to fix that.)

The audio quality was also good. Not the best, but not terrible. I would have preferred it to remain in the 5.1 mix, but that's not always feasible. The 2-channel stereo track wasn't bad by any means though. I was even able to re-encode it to a lower bitrate for viewing on my iPod nano 7th gen, and the audio was still great.

This will definitely be my go-to version of the film. A genuinely good story with great performances and great effects, and the extended cut gives us more story where the original was lacking.

9.5/10, would recommend. Well done, Masirims017!

I want to preface this by saying that I've always been a fan of The Amazing Spiderman. The original film had problems, but I always enjoyed Andrew Garfield's performance and the more realistic take on Spiderman.

This is from now on my go to version of this movie. The new scenes add so much to the story without adding too much to the runtime. It really makes you wonder why they were ever taken out. The scene where Curt Connors talks to Peter outside his house shortly after Ben dies gives Connors so much more character, and I enjoyed the addition of some music from The Amazing Spiderman 2.

There are a few places where you can definitely tell that it's a deleted scene because of unfinished VFX or grainier footage (Rajit snooping in Connors office and when Connors turns into the lizard for the final time and kills Rajit), but not enough where it takes you out of the film.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend this edit to any fan of The Amazing Spiderman. Definitely the best version of the film I've seen so far, and I hope to see an edit of No Way Home from Masirimso17 at some point.

This gave me a new appreciation for the film. The use of extra (in some cases, alternative) scenes really helped the movie, as did the cuts and moving things around. For example, Dr Ratha's fate, Connor's appeal for help, the clock tower scene, Ben's death (alternative version) all add real depth, not just more images. The variation in the visual quality of the added material was a bit distracting, and it is a pity that the greenscreen hand in the scene where Parker shadows Connor to the alley was not fixed, unlike the greenscreen arm in the appeal for help scene (the plastic-looking lizard scurrying around Connors' lair was also a bit jarring). I completely appreciate though that this is a labour of love, and provided for free, and that not everything is possible, and I stress that these few quibbles do not detract from the overall wonderful job done here. Thank you, editor!

This was truly a delight to watch. I am a big fan of the Amazing Spider-Man movie but I can say that this edit feels much closer to "full" story that Amazing Spider-Man was supposed to be. The added deleted scenes make for a much more cohesive story and adds so much to the characters. This is a must watch for any TASM fans out there. My only (constructive) criticism are some of the color correction differences between most of the deleted scenes and the rest of the movie (the first person scene being the prime example) and the green screen arm (which is barely present but still there). Also the CG lizard part lol. Other than that this is still very enjoyable to watch and increased my appreciation for the film. Well done.
