There are aspects of the original Thor: Love and Thunder that I enjoyed but the "comedy" (if you'd like to call it that) made it almost unbearable. Everything we'd seen in the past of Thor's character arc, with his mourning, his humility, and declining mental health, had all been thrown to the wayside to make room for an at times childish Thor and cheap, middle school humor. Unfortunately, I think there's very little any editor could do to try and resurrect any sort of character or story progression from the atrocity that is Thor 4 but Tremault's edit seems to smooth out the ride of the original trainwreck and that's definitely worth some praise.

Purely based on personal preference, there are parts that I would've liked to see remain in this cut, like the falling glass temple, Thor's (admittedly lame but funny) slow glide into screen when Star Lord looks at the Guardians and the absurdity of Zeus (which, I think, actually fits given the character). Not all comedy was bad comedy in the original, the majority of it was though. Ultimately, this was a MUCH better version than the original and I'd 1000% watch this before watching the official release. Thanks, Tremault!

This edit is so well done! The tone is steady and the remaining jokes are funny. Gorr is creepy and always feels looming; and I love that we understand his motivation from the go and his change of wish feels more believable now. I feel like theirs some audio issues once they arrive in the shadow realm but not detrimental. I love that korg is limited but the song when zues kills him feels clunky. Also, since you cut that New Asgard is a tourist trap you should cut them converting the ship from a ride, if possible. Also, if you put the flashbacks in the beginning after he closes his eyes so that star lord snaps him out of it might flow better. I love janes reveal, both as thor and that she has cancer. Her death broke my wife in this version lol

Long story short, this edit is amazing; turning a terrible movie into something worth watching!!!

I love that the emotional weight of Jane's story came across :)
I'm sorry that your wife was upset, but also happy if you get my meaning ^^;

I’ll start by admitting that I couldn’t make it to the end of the original film. And I had already tried it twice. As soon as we moved from Gorr’s introduction to Korg’s narration (God, I hate MCU’s Korg), Thor’s buffoonery with all the Van Damme-ish splits, those damned bleating goats and the cancer jokes, I bailed out both times. So, making it to the end of this fan-edit is already a win for Tremault in my books.

From a technical standpoint, Thor Love + Thunder – Comedy meets the same standards established by Tremault’s previous works. Even though a lot of cutting and trimming was clearly involved in her editing room, nothing sticks out as far as I’m concerned. On an enjoyment level, however, I still believe that the film is an unsalvageable mess storywise, no matter what. That is by no means the editor’s fault, whose hard efforts made it at the very least a sufferable experience for me. It’s just that Waititi’s sense of humor (or “humor”, more accurately) is not my cup of tea. More like a cup of poison, I’d say. Cringy lines of dialogue, a mockery of Zeus, empowered children fighting against shadows with their teddy bears as a weapon… My goodness, they’re everywhere in the plot, so that even with Tremault’s best efforts the film could not be salvaged in my eyes.

Usually I save some suggestions for the end of every review, but since I have none in this instance, I’d like to end it on a positive note, praising some of the editor’s fixes. The way she has trimmed every scene with Gorr in it, for example, makes Christian Bale’s performance really –and I mean REALLY- shine! And there’s also that wise choice of omitting the whole kid sidekick nonsense, choosing instead to end the film just as Jane is dying in Thor’s arms. That was such a fitting and heartbreaking moment which almost made me forget what kind of a movie I was watching. And that’s really something!

lovely review, thanks :)
indeed the original movie is so bad, if all the bad was taken out, we'd be left with something so short that it doesn't even make sense.
I'm really glad you got to enjoy Gorr's intimidating presence though, and that emotional ending, those were the parts that made it all worthwhile for me.

Thank you for taking the time to review!
If you have the time, I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me about your issues with my audio and visual editing (why you marked me down on those), There might be some relatively easy fixes.

When I first watched Love and Thunder, I couldn't finish it and had to put it down. When I stumbled across this edit I figured it was worth a shot to try again. From the edit starting montage/narration and the beginning battle I knew this edit meant business when it came to cutting out unnecessary comedy. This version of the movie is far more tolerable, and shows the potential that was behind the film and helped even out the tone between the God Butcher and the rest of the comedic shenanigans.

I mean it got rid of the screaming goats, what more could you ask for.
