To create ten 60 mins Episodes from Quentin Tarantino's 10 films to date.
Intention:
The main goal of this edit was to focus the story on the Bride. This was done by removing extraneous subplot elements, and telling the Bride's story in more of a linear fashion. That way, viewers are privy to the events that result in her inner turmoil, and understand the lengths she is going to for revenge. As a result of this, the edit has a much faster pace than the original, with some scenes cut altogether, some moderately cut down and in some cases re-arranged to move the story along faster.

Film opens with wedding massacre scene from Volume 2. In fact, most of the flashback scenes from Volume 2 have been integrated into Volume 1. The wedding scene has been trimmed for time.
The detectives arrive and survey the massacre (trimmed)
Elle enter the hospital and is about to kill The Bride, but receives a call from Bill instructing her not to (trimmed).
The Bride waking up from a mosquito bite has been removed as that is quite a lame reason for coming out of a coma. Instead, she has a flashback to Bill shooting her and wakes up in a panic. Rebuilding the audio track was required here to remove the mosquito buzzing
The scene as The Bride leaves the hospital and steals the Pussy Wagon van has been trimmed, along with the scene in the backseat as she learns to wiggle her toes again.
Next, she flies to Okinawa and meets with Hattori Hanzo. The scene in his sushi bar has been greatly reduced.
Meanwhile, we are introduced to O-Ren Ishi, the leader of the Japanese Yakuza.
The next scenes where Hattori Hanzo agrees to make a sword and the meeting with Boss Tanaka's beheading has been left largely the same.
A significant change in this edit is now The Bride trains during the same time Hattori Hanzo is crafting the sword. He says it will take one month to make the sword, and to use that time training. The Bride meets with Pei-Mei (from Volume 2) and completes her training, and we learn of O-Ren Ishi's backstory through the anime flashbacks before The Bride returns back to Hattori Hanzo to collect the sword. Some minor trims in the training sequence.
Another significant alteration is that while training with Pei-Mei, The Bride has a dream of the fireside conversation with Bill (from Volume 2). Here, she learns of the exploding heart technique, before waking up.
Transition to the Hanzo sword ceremony has been redone, and has a new music cue.
After The Bride completes the training and now has the sword, she returns back to America (plane footage from Volume 2). Meanwhile, Bill seeks out Budd to warn him of The Bride's danger (this scene also trimmed to remove the beeped-out mention of "Beatrix" as that was not consistent with this cut of the film).
The Bride arrives to Vernita Green's place, and kills her (from earlier in the film). This sequence also has significant cuts and almost completely removes the daughter sub-plot. Listen for rebuilt audio as Vernita Green reaches for the cereal box in the cupboard, foley recorded by myself.
Finally, The Bride sneaks into Budd's trailer intending to kill him, but is shot. Completely new sword unsheathing SFX as The Bride removes the sword from the sheath under the trailer, and a brand new music cue here.
Budd captures The Bride, and buries her alive. Some slight SFX work here as new cricket/forest sounds were needed and also the addition of a heartbeat track while she is buried.
-Note: burnt-in subtitles for Japanese dialogue and all 'chapter' screens removed.

So I'm glad I decided to review this one AFTER watching Episode 5 or I likely would've been a little less generous... and I'm going to be honest a be a bit of a stickler on this looking at the scope and idea of the overall project I felt this one wavered a bit.
By this I mean the objective as I read it was to take EACH of Tarantino's 10 films and turn them into 60 minute stand alone episodes so upon the first watch I was like why are we pulling scenes from Part II and why is the O-Ren end scene completely omitted from this edit (suspecting it would addressed in Episode 5)
As a singular episode I can't say this totally worked for me using the above as my grading point - The video and audio editing was great even if I didn't agree with some of the musical changes - I also felt as I viewer questioning how she A) got in the truck (was it unlocked) and B) did she hotwire it because of the omission of the hospital rape scene. there were a few other scene sequences that didn't hit the mark with me as well for a singular episode with the training/sword making taking up what I found was too much valuable time - after watching the next episode it made more sense but I'm grading this on my first time watch.
I also want to note that I would still highly recommend this as a companion piece to Episode 5 obviously but really feel this was better suited as a combined 2 hour - 2 editor release separate from this project that big picture would have scored 10's across the board for me instead of a single entity as yourself and Phase3 collectively really put together a great feature. I would've liked to see what could've been done to edit Kill Bill Part 1 as a 60 minute episode as opposed to pulling stuff from Part II and vice versa (and once again that is me being a stickler to what I perceived as the overall scope of this project)

There were a lot of things I liked about this edit, but it doesn't 100% work for me. Were I to edit Kill Bill 1 & 2, I'd probably start by trying to lay it out chronologically first, too, to see how that plays. And I suppose it works. But it makes for some odd pacing inherently, and the choices made by the editor as far as what to keep and what to lose exacerbate that problem. The biggest issue here is peppering in O-Ren's backstory. It throws the rhythm of the whole thing off. For instance, in the scene with Hanzo, at one point we cut to black and just music for 9 seconds to lead in to the backstory of O-Ren, but we only get that for 35 seconds before jumping right back into the last scene. Then, a few minutes later, we get more of the same scene shoe-horned into the middle of a conversation that has nothing to do with her. Later on, we interrupt the bride's training with Pai Mei (already broken up with Bill's story) for more of O-Ren's (anime) backstory. But we don't encounter O-Ren until part 2, and she's not even the big bad of the 2-part story. Were we not spending so much time on setting her up, there would be more time to spend with things that matter to this part of the story, like how the bride ended up with car keys from a hospital bed after a coma, or more time spent with the members of the DVAS that we do encounter in this part so that it didn't feel so unbalanced. I will say, the way Vol.1 is combined with Vol.2 as if they are all one big film is really cool. There were moments where a scene from Vol.2 is worked into the narrative, and it fits beautifully. Having her train with Pai Mei in China while Hanzo is spending a month crafting her sword in Japan is inspired, and it is the perfect opportunity to pull in Bill's campfire story so we get more time with him, too. And the ending is absolutely perfect. Like I said, there are a lot of things I liked, and while it didn't work for me on the whole, I'll still recommend it as your mileage may vary.
Audio editing was great; no issues. And, in fact, all of the new foley is integrated beautifully. Visual editing was perfect other than one shot where Hanzo yells for tea that was so poorly cropped that it's clearly just half the frame.

Loved this one, was very pleased with the format of the story. The way it weaved back and forth, was better than the actual films, for me anyway. The ending was done perfectly as well. Loved this one so much. Another great episode.
Not going to spoil anything, but this pairs very well with vol. 2 I suggest watching them both together

I'm really impressed at the teamwork between you and Phase3 planning this combo out! The timeline must have been really tough to get right and still keep enough threads hanging to resolve in part two, but you pulled it off.
Setting up O-Ren during the training with Pei Mei was very well done, and I got the strong feeling that O-Ren coming up in the world was happening at the same time chronologically as Beatrix being trained, it helped give an even better time frame than the original.
Cutting three sometimes four parts of the movie together into one alternating sequence was really impressive.
The only thing that felt slightly out of place was flying to Japan, getting the sword from Hanzo, then flying back to kill Vernita using a knife, then next episode going back to Japan. I totally understand WHY it had to happen (because she has her Hanzo sword when she faces down Elle Driver at Budd's trailer) but in real life I don't see her flying to Japan, flying home, and flying back to face O-Ren.
A very very minimal issue, and I'm sure it's one you already thought about, no points docked there.
Also ending it buried alive was a great cliffhanger!

And the hits keep coming with entry in the Tarantino Tales.
Kill Bill is my favourite QT flick, so I was very curious what road would be taken to whittle this classic down by 50 minutes.
What we get is mostly set-up for the cliffhanger ending. While the originals were broken into two movies, each movie had its own beginning, middle and end. That is not quite the case here. However, I will say the new cliffhanger ending is masterful and I loved it.
Much of the movie is dedicated to O-Ren's backstory but it has no pay-off. Narratively, it might have played stronger if part one had gone with The Bride's confrontation with O-Ren and saved the Green fight for part two.
The structure and pacing of some of O-Ren and Pai Mei was a bit abrupt in some spots, but I very much liked the idea of The Bride training while waiting for her sword to be made.
Noted one flash frame during the hospital fade to black, or more specifically, during the fade to black the camera angle changes.
A fun watch.
