Ghostbusters (2016) wasn't a horrible movie when I first saw it in theatre many years ago. I started to dislike it little by little as years went by, but nowadays I think the movie is just extremely fine. It's nothing special or unique, it's the worst Ghostbusters movie and it did leave a bad impact on the franchise on many people's hearts.
But when I found out that TM2YC made a edit of the movie that removes many bad improv jokes and scenes from the extended version of the movie, I decided to finally watch it. Was it good?

In shorter terms, it was. It did fix the pacing of the movie, it did remove the cringey scenes and dialogue and left the best parts that did work and enhanced them. This edit doesn't fix everything, though. The story is still kind of simple, but I can forgive that because Ghostbusters movies don't focus a lot on the narrative. I recommend this edit to those who want a lot better version of the movie and also to those who want to give Ghostbusters (2016) a second chance.

Well done, TM2YC! You edited this movie to be best it could be!

The day I saw this edit posted on IFDB was the day I reluctantly bought a copy of Ghostbusters 2016. I have not seen the original film because of the negative reviews and bad word-of-mouth it was receiving, and so I lost interest. When I saw that TM2YC had cut this thing up, I said "Alright, let's get that official movie, put it on my shelf forever, and watch this edit!"

They say that the best cuts are the ones you don't notice. I can probably list about five cuts I noticed based on audio quality or just an odd cut where something felt out of place. So imagine my surprise when I looked at the extensive cut-list: Hundreds of cuts went by completely unnoticed. This fanedit is near-perfectly cut together, and I was often asking myself why this version wasn't released in theaters. Is this the funniest Ghostbusters? Not by a long shot. But TM2YC put together a solid comedy that got some genuine laughs out of me. At no point was I frustrated or angry at the edit (which is what I've been hearing about the theatrical cut). Except for Chris Hemsworth, but to be fair, there was seemingly no way to shut him up.

That all said, the flaws of this edit (as with many great edits) come from the source material. This movie kind of degrades into a generic superhero-like plot that really does nothing interesting. But! I liked the main characters and wasn't annoyed with them at all! Which, again, is something I was expecting. So, because I liked those characters, I was okay with a sort of mundane plot.

This cut won't have you dying of laughter, as with the original Ghostbusters. And most of the humor doesn't hold up to the first half of Ghostbusters II (It has an amazing first half, watch it again and you'll remember how funny it is. Stop watching as soon as they get they put on the Ghostbusters suits). But you know what? This edit is as good a blockbuster "appeal to all audiences" comedy can get. It's got some great stuff in it, and I was pleasantly surprised. After reading the enormous cut-list, I think it's safe to say that this movie has been saved. Seriously, some of the stuff in that cut-list was downright scary...

A fantastic cut that I'll reccomend to anyone morbidly curious about Ghostbusters 2016. TM2YC has answered the call with GHOSTBUSTERS III!

I have to preface my review by saying I've never watched the original. I picked up the Blu-ray on clearance and never even took off the shrink wrap.

I watched this edit with my wife, and the quality was good enough that she didn't know it was an edit until I told her when we finished. The video and audio cuts are excellent.

The narrative was a bit hard to follow. People don't act like real human beings, and I'm not really clear on when Leslie Jones joined the crew, she was just suddenly part of it. But maybe that's the fault of the original material.

I had heard a lot of bad things about over-the-top gags and poorly improved lines, but for the most part the comedy that was still left in this edit did work for us. And I do appreciate the relatively short run time.

Overall, though, I have to say I didn't enjoy this movie. Even edited, it still feels like a pointless remake of a classic comedy, that copied the format and major story beats but lost everything that made the original fun.

Belatedly here is another review.
I watched this about 6 months ago. The biggest accolade I can give is I watched it again last night.

What TM2YC has done here is nothing short of spectacular on many fronts.

I saw this edit having NOT watched the original due to the awful press. In fact, I had no intention of watching the original ever. But on a cold viewing, I was really shocked at how good the film was, the performances, the restraint, the great comedy, timing, writing. WOW. What the hell was everyone complaining about ? OH>>>>IDIOT...You are watching a fanedit!!!! T H A T is how good I thought it was. IN fact I couldn't believe the original could be as bad as people said. REALLY? YUP. IN fact the theatrical version is a car crash of Hobbit Trilogy proportions, if not worse.

This film has been sal;vaged beyond what the filmmakers deserved. The judicious trims, cuts, etc all enhance the experience and allow the comic genius of the actors and writers to shine. When actors are let to ad-lib, the edit suite is where you pick the gems and dump the trash. That step was left out which dimished the final theatrical cut. IN fact, this edit does not pass more than 30 to 60 secs without a change and yet is seamless. As a fellow faneditor, I was waiting to spot the lazy fade, early trim, or "you should have cut that". BUT NOPE, this is just perfect.

I did watch the original a few months back and .....dear god!!!! I wont EVER be doing that again.

TM2YC, You made an outstanding rescue of this piece now worthy of the franchise. Thanks you for letting these ladies shine and your artistry!
PERFECTLY JUDGED AND EXECUTED! Power me up!

PS
As others have noted, not making deductions for the inherent issues that can't be solved short of a re-write or re-shoot.

As others have stated I am not docking points based on the failings of the original - I hated it when it released. Not the fanboy tears of an all female cast. I thought that was a novel approach to a property that needed a breath of fresh air.

No... It was the nonsense improv after every single scene that kept scenes from ending and they weren't even funny.... man they were really bad. The original theatrical cut is what i expect a director's cut + gag reel to look like.. eventually i would get so exhausted from the attempts at comedy that i would miss any legitimate comic experience. also I found that they seemed like they were improv-ing as themselves and not their characters and in some cases betrayed their own backstory and often losing the playful comic dynamic in favor of a silly quip.

This excises all of that mess and allows the movie to breathe. The movie still isn't on par with the other entries in the series, but it gets so much closer in this cut.
