Brief Synopsis:
This is Christopher Caldwell and Zeek Earl's award-winning Sci-Fi Space Western with an enhanced score featuring the delicate music of Agnes Obel. Cee and her father Damon will risk one last trip to the dangerous "Green Moon" of Bakhroma to secure a better future for their small family. Along the way, they must contend with pirates, mercenaries, and a toxic atmosphere, all intent on keeping them from their prize.
Intention:
Prospect (2018) is a favourite of mine. It's essentially a small side chapter in a much larger world that's quite different from our own, but nonetheless feels very real and grounded. A perfect fusion of crisp writing and practical effects make it feel much larger than its modest budget would imply. The story is classic western, but with some surprises.

Having said that, I've often felt it was slightly let down by the music. Daniel Caldwell's score is quite good, but does feel a little one-note to my ears. After a deep (and unrelated) dive into Agnes Obel's music I found myself convinced her sound was a perfect complement to the alien and delicate look of the Hoh rainforest, where the movie was filmed.

Special Thanks:
The Scribbling Man for taking a careful look at one of the scenes that required some significant sound work. My take-aways from that became a template for how I handled several of the scenes.

Editing Details:
My objective was largely one of changing the music and enhancing the soundscape. While there is also a nearly complete re-grade to the colour, my intent was not to cut or adjust any scenes aside from minor trims to work with the music.
Cuts and Additions:
There are many small trims to complement the music, and many complete soundscape rebuilds were required to make this all work, but for this edit a detailed change log isn't particularly helpful to the viewer (in my opinion). Instead, I will list all of the songs that were added, and their approximate starting point in the timeline.

00:01:00 - Fuel to Fire
00:14:00 - Familiar
00:20:00 - Roscian
00:33:30 - The Curse
00:37:45 - Into My Blood (Carina Round, subtly corrupted to sound a little alien)
00:46:17 - Stretch Your Eyes
00:57:10 - Parliament of Owls
01:04:00 - Red Virgin Soil
01:10:00 - Fivefold
01:32:00 - Aventine

Regarding the visuals, the exterior shots were given an adjusted colour grade to pull out oranges, browns, and yellows, and to add more depth to the Hoh rainforest.

The new score works very well, it was a great choice for this film. The opening shot and its new song give a good preview of the how the score integrates with the film. And the work done to remix it with the sound effects.

The improved colors are rich and atmospheric, the visuals stand out a lot more, the forest looks more ethereal and alien now.

For some reason, some aspects of the original film story don’t click with me, but I don’t know how they could have been improved with editing. There’s just not enough material.

Also, at the last dig site, I think shortening the negotiation scene would have been possible, especially by removing some of the way too intense aggression from the “radio woman”. If the mercenaries are seen as less aggressive, then the fact that the duo later kills them becomes much more ambiguous.

Nicely done.
I found the original hard to maintain my interest because it felt like while the cast and storyline were good it lacked the right atmosphere as well.
The audio changes were an excellent choice, Great visual enhancements for the planet, and a definite improvement overall on the final result. If I'm watching sci-fi, I love a lot of strong colours.

Splendid work futon88!
You have a great eye and ear for details.
I really loved the added Agnes Obel tunes.
Her music is very atmospheric and filmic and suits this edit perfecly.
But to be fair her music is so great that it will probably fit in everything.
I also loved the enhanced almost glowing colors in this edit and it really makes the visuals stand out.
Stunning work!

It's a 10 from me all the way and if you love the original version, then you will love this edit even more.
Highly recommended!
