Brief Synopsis:
The story of a passionate but doomed romance between a poor, young artist named Jack and an upper-class woman named Rose, aboard the ill-fated maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic.

The Extended Voyage aims to present James Cameron's film at it's best and longest, with more than 30 new and extended scenes, and over 30 minutes of footage. More Titanic action, romance, drama and iceberg!
Intention:
After realising that the film is over 25 years old, and watching the film on Blu-Ray, I wanted to do something with it. I didn't have any issue with the modern day scenes, or the switching POVs or the simplistic character tropes, so I didn't want to cut or do anything drastic. Could I do an extended cut? ADM and Q2 had already done this years before me, so what could I do differently?
After comparing the Blu-Ray to the DVD, Laserdisc and earlier releases, I saw that there was large differences in colour-grading. The BR was very yellow/green, and so I got to work regrading the film scene by scene and sometimes shot by shot, to my own preferences.
After that was done, I started reintegrating the deleted scenes from the ground up, and looked to Q2's edit and where I could do it differently in regards to scene arrangement. I watched the film, made more changes, and was done!
Additional Notes:
The entire edit is in HD and 5.1 Surround. I don't usually do 5.1 but the deleted scenes are surround so the edit is too!
Other Sources:
- Titanic DTS Laserdisc: Capture of this release was done by borisanddoris, which is a little more dynamic than the Blu-Ray, sounds great!
- Titanic 2012 Blu-Ray: Film and deleted scenes taken from this release
Special Thanks:
borisanddoris for the LD DTS track
moviebuff7 for watching an early cut and giving feedback
Q2 and ADM for creating such great edits that I referred back to constantly while editing

The places where the scenes were inserted were expertly selected; if I didn’t have the change list, I would have missed a few of the new scenes, thinking they had been there on the original. All the cuts were also flawless.

I did get a notion about why all of these extra scenes were cut in the first time, though. There’s an argument to be made about the total runtime having become too long. In the end, though, the film turns into even more of an epic narrative.

Pretty much all the extra scenes give additional info / more development of the characters. The one notorious exception was the action scene between Jack and Lovejoy in the sinking dining room. This scene messes with the flow of the “sinking ship” Arc. All the other scenes since the ship starts sinking move the story forward in way or another; the Jack and Lovejoy fighting scene feels like going backwards in the narrative. “Let’s stop this story about the sinking ship to give more scenes about Jack and Rose fleeing from Lovejoy”, when we’ve seen a few of those already on the second Act. The scene is similar to what we’ve seen throughout the film, just with extra water.

I would be in favor of removing this scene all together, just like the alternate ending that was not included. I fully agree with that choice, that weird ending actually destroys some of the characters’ growth, while removing agency from old Rose.

Another masterfully edited extended edition by Bobson Dugnutt. While its an improvement of the still-excellent extended editions of ADM & Q2 by virtue of getting rid of that god-awful alternate ending, it still includes the unnecessary fight between Jack & Lovejoy and the cheesy scene where Rose talks about her dreams of being a moving picture actress to Jack and poses for a camera. Titanic '97 is one of my favorite movies of all time regardless, but those two scenes just detract from what would be an otherwise perfect version of the film. Overall, I highly recommend this version and would rate it as the best of the three extended editions.

I loved it. I own an old DVD (hate buying media more than once) so most of the deleted scenes were new to me and seamlessly inserted with exquisite editing. The film itself is is technically terrific, and the three lead actors look perfect, but they're not at their acting peak here.
