Star Trek: Vengeance takes the already pretty good but very flawed Star Trek Into Darkness and makes it genuinely great, up there with the other two Kelvin Timeline entries of the franchise. The plot feels much more clear, without any unnecessary distractions like Carol Marcus' striptease or the more fan service-y bits and pieces. The changes I appreciated the most are incorporating the deleted scene explaining why Carol has a British accent and re-arranging the Spock hunting Khan bit where he's now chasing him to get his blood as opposed to wanting revenge. While I did enjoy Leonard Nimoy's appearance and the relationship tensions between Spock and Uhura in the original film, I had no problem with them being cut out for this edit as a means of keeping the story focused. This feels less like a Wrath of Khan wannabe and more like a standalone strong Star Trek adventure, and for that alone, I got a real kick out of this edit.

What an improvement! TM2YC's edit convincingly surpasses the original.

Audio / video editing is seamless. Amazingly, the only time a visual transition pulled me out of the story was more than an hour in when the aspect ratio changed from Imax to wide-screen. Upon rewatching I saw that I'd sat through several aspect ratio changes earlier in the movie. Without realizing it!

Narrative editing is top notch. Plot distractions are removed, strengthening the plot and keeping it clearer. While I love to see Nimoy and lots of Uhura, his removal and her tantrum cut do make the story better. This edit feels less Wrath of Khan reboot and more stand-on-its-own Star Trek adventure.
One narrative transition felt truncated: we lose Carol Marcus' explanation that she can shuttle to an asteroid to open the torpedo outside the ship. Perhaps that line can be inserted over her walking into the shuttle followed by the slow zoom-in to the bridge?

I'm curious to see other edits of this movie. TM2YC certainly sets the bar high.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS is a movie I really enjoyed when it came out, I really enjoy JJ Abrams vision in this world, I consider the original movie to be really fun and entertaining, in a few words it was a solid 8 out of 10 for me, but this edit has completely replaced the original in my collection, it is absolutely fantastic. The change in direction it does near the end is an excellent choice, the new colors and cuts of plot holes and little comments that served no purpose only make it better, the transitions are great and the added effects make it look and feel seamless as if this was the original intent of the movie in the first place. I want to congratulate TM2YC for this fantastic reshaping of a this movie, it was a great and fulfilling experience. Definitely replaced the original movie for me, again, thanks for this.

This is a great edit, expertly handled to create a movie far superior to the original.
I'm definitely in the camp of those who were very disappointed with Into Darkness when I first saw it at the cinema, the worst flaw for me (amongst many) being that it felt like a shameless 'greatest hits' rip off (KHAN!!!!)
Kirk's death scene had little emotional impact, because it hadn't earned it. Kirk and Spock didn't seem to have known each other for very long or have much of a friendship. Although the film grew on me with time, really I only tolerated it.
Well I'm happy to say that TM2YC has done an amazing job and showed that there was a great movie under there all the time. The movie has a theme now - Vengeance. The narrative is so much better, the story is no longer muddled and all over the place. The crew seem like they've been together a while (not just 5 minutes after the last film) Kirk and Spock's characters are vastly improved, they seem like friends and Kirk's death genuinely has an emotional impact now. For me this edit has taken a 6/10 movie up to a 9/10 enjoyment wise. I think he's succeeded in all of the things he set out to do with it.
I watched both the bluray and 720p MP4. I've seen it 3 times now, which is the same amount of times I watched ITD. It's improved each time. I think a fanedit (usually) deserves at least 2 watches before making your mind up as you'll often remember what happened before and what's been cut, and (for me at least) it takes a couple of watches to start overwriting the old version in my mind. Of course there's still some flaws in the film that can't be changed, just bad writing or casting in the original movie, but I feel like I can live with them more now.
TM2YC's Video editing is seamless, beautifully done. There's a couple of bits (very rare) where there's a noticeable cut but they have to be like that to make the narrative work. Nothing too major anyhow. After I'd watched it the first time, I then read through his entire list of changes and what TM2YC has accomplished is just amazing. He's done so much more than I ever noticed, which is a testament to how well he's edited it. Love the colour correction too.
The sound editing is good. I liked his moving of small amounts of dialogue to other scenes, worked well. New music was fine for the most part. And I think it's a Stereo mix, could be wrong. Most of the audio was fine, although some talking scenes seemed a little quiet now and again. But overall, very good.
There were a couple of things that I was not sure about. I agree with some other reviewers that the line "it's gonna be alright son" (said in the bar scene by Pike) and the look Kirk gives back feels a little out of place in the new narrative. Although, who knows perhaps TM2YC tried it differently and it didn't work.
Also the scene where Spock and Urura kiss also seems out of place, the edit could easily do without it. And finally right at the end of the Spock/Khan fight, I did wonder whether Spock would/should still be as uncontrolled and violent given the new narrative? Still not sure. And at the point where Uhura tells Spock to stop, perhaps they could've just had one look back and forth before he takes him down?
But anyway these issues are tiny compared to just how great this edit is. It's excellent and I can now proudly display it on my shelf.
TM2YC has managed to drag this movie firmly out of the darkness and into the light. Well done TM2YC, and thank you!

I have seen Into darkness a fair number of times and while I like it quite a lot, I don't love it. I own it for the sake of completion.

There are a number of things wrong with the original film, and some of them are still prevalent in this edit (a guy can only do so much without making the film Jarring.) TM2YC has made the best possible version of the film with there could be - without resorting to reshoots. This missing 15 minutes of Spock & Kirk, Spock & Uhara, and Original Spock are not missed. Neither is the obvious fan service scene. With the necessary cuts this feels a lot closer to 09 than the cluttered mess it originally was. Things only happen when they need to, Friendships are reinstated, Kirk is not reinstated...because he doesn't get demoted in the first place.

A/V: were prefect, crisp quality, no ghosting, audio was clear and precise.
Editing: even though I know where scenes should be I try to imagine how I'd feel if I was watching the film for the first time and I think a fantastic job has been done here. Nothing feels deliberate or out of place, the pacing is much improved.
Story: Though I wouldn't have minded to see a little more (young) spock I didn't miss the omissions. The story feels more purposed with just the right balance of exposition, action and humour, scenes such the demotion just serve to create a fake mcguffin and are not missed at all.

I think this edit is definitely worth a viewing, but for me personally it's replaced the original, even if the ending still leaves something to be desired.
