These are the kind of edits I like the most: those that fix obvious flaws from original sources to create a plausible Hollywood-quality improved version. A lot of credit should go to the VFX creators, which fit greatly with the original practical ones, but the same can be said from the excellent visual and audio editing. From now, this is the definitive version to watch!

Just one very minor nitpicking detail: even though the new VFX shots are of great quality, they may look a little to clean/CGI compared to the original footage when compared to the original optical/practical effects. Maybe this could be improved with a mild combination of grain+soft+chromatic aberration filters on those shots which could make them feel more 'analog'.

I wonder if the director's cut version could also have the same treatment and thus create a true director's special edition, much like the official ST:TMP DC. I'm aware of the other cut based on the DC with almost all VFXs replaced, but I much prefer this more subtle approach.

This cut absolutely stands out as an essential must see for any Trek fans that love space battles and visual effects. The VFX improved the pacing of the movie’s action sequences and kept it tight to fit in all the right places. Wrath of Khan set the standard for all Star Trek space battles that followed it, and this cut just made it even more fun! Absolutely killer edit. I loved it. Hats off to Wraith who was awesome enough to share it with us!

I was checking through my Letterboxd diary and realized I hadn't reviewed this version. Not that I needed an excuse to rewatch it, but I did anyway.
I don't think there's anything more I can add that the other reviews haven't already touched on. I also noted the frame skips on certain shots when they transitioned from one to the other. It doesn't however ruin the experience in any way. Great additions to my favourite Star Trek film. Thank you Wraith.

To be fair, I'don't mind the classic effects of the original movie, although the reuse of some effects from the first film could have been avoided.

This edit is incredible! I can't even imagine the work that has been done to get these results. It's the same excellent movie you remember, but with better VFX that do not seem out of place or intrusive.

My only complaint is that in several instances the fps drops sharply, for a couple os seconds, when we transition to a scene with the new VFX. So, the picture is 'jumpy' for those couple of seconds.

I highly recommend this edit to anyone who want a refreshing experience with an already excellent movie!

Thank you Wraith for all your hard work and thanks to anyone who read my review!

As with most films of this era, they often look and film very dated. It's bound to happen given the time it was created, and the idealogies behind the story. Yet the one area that really stands out in the Theatrical and Directors Cut of the Wrath of Khan are the visual effects. It's this area that really hasn't aged well, and if you know anything about the film, you'll know most of the VFX are recycled.

So, having seen this edit on FanEdit, i decided to give this a go and... well, it's frankly amazing! The amount of effort and polish that has gone into not just the new VFX scenes by very talented people, but the editing, pacing, grading and respect for the source material by Wraith.

This edit doesn't re-tell a story with differing outomes, but rather it updates the narrative with deleted scenes, brand new visuals, and a updated score to match. It was my long held opinion that this is the one film in the Star Trek canon that should remain "as is", and after watching this, i'm converted! Thank you to Wraith and and all the talent behind this edit, because in my humble opinion, this deserves to be canon.
