Great edit. There were some places that enough narrative was cut out to make it a bit confusing if you hadn't seen the movie before (not that the original movie made to much sense). With that in mind, I felt that the majority of the cuts were well placed and completed the overall goal of the edit, to cut out 3P0, R2D2 and JarJar.

Wow, what an improvement. Clearly far better than the painful original. As it stands, if I had a kid, this'd be the version I'd show them.

Great work on the scrolling wording.

Well done on getting Anakin out of space in the final act. Reviewers have questioned it, but you are spot on - a comedy accidental destruction of a big boss (droid control ship) by a child ? Why didn't Lucas have Darth Maul die after being distracted by a puppy?
Personally I'd like to lose from this version of the control ship scene the lines that suggest that the rest of the squadron didn't know why the ship was blowing up (otherwise what was their plan?!). So I'd take out "What's that?", "We didn't hit it." and "It's one of ours", but keep "It's blowing up from the inside."

Glad 3PO's gone too. I wouldn't have minded R2 kicking around, but not bothered.

Which brings us to JarJar. Frankly any appearance is too much, and it's great there's so little of him. The problem is now, because he can't be entirely removed, that he seems to be stalking the principal characters! From the dialogue, once he's taken them to the underwater city his role is over. But there he is in Theed. Oh and look now he's in the Jedi spacecraft & following them round Tatooine...
But what can you do? It's the source's fault. Given that we can just about believe that he might have guided the Jedi to Theed, it would be good if we could have just a couple of line's of dialogue to explain why he's following the principals off Naboo.

I remember the pod race as interminable. This version seems better, though ideally would be just two laps!

So essentially great. There is only one thing I strongly disagree with, and that's taking out Obi-Wan's promise as Qui-Gon is dying. That *is* a key moment in the trilogy. To have him mention it casually to Yoda later felt weak. You managed to speed up the pace everywhere - it's ok to slow it when it's important!

I can't compare to other fanedits of Phantom as I haven't seen them, but this is great - I say find it and watch it.

Hey everyone, I had the wonderful opportunity to watch this edit. I'm a big fan of L8wrtr's edits of the Prequel Trilogy because of the new flavor it adds to them. This is definitely another great alternative for those that are looking for something a little bit more closer to the original prequels, but told better. The edits are greatly made. It makes the film move at a much better pace as well. This is definitely my go to alternative to the theatrical of Phantom Menacce. Great job. I'd highly recommend it.

Full disclosure: I watched The Phantom Menace in the theater when it came out when I was 10-12, so the original has a bit of nostalgia value to it. Also this is the first fan-edit I've seen.

I've seen this TPM dozens of times and I know pretty much every line and audio/visual cue, so to me, things seemed a bit too fast paced, but only slightly. I love that that almost all Jar-Jar "shenanigans" are gone (and his entire subplot of him being banished from Otoh Gunga), and C3PO is only seen a couple times in the background with no dialogue. The other big change I noticed is a couple of 4th wall breaking lines such as "What are you some kind of jedi?" from Watto and removing Anakin from the final space battle, which was done VERY well in my opinion. There were a few audio cuts that didn't sync too well with the video (sudden score changes) but if I wasn't looking for changes, I probably wouldn't have noticed.

As someone who thinks the original TPM film was pretty good (I love poking fun at the awful dialog), I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to get through the movie in marathon mode or maybe to show someone who hasn't seen it before. To me, it was a bit too fast paced, but I still recommend it to anyone looking for an alternative edit to TPM.

Ep.1 was my least favourite of the PT, too many reasons to list. After viewing the Q2 v.2 edit my order of preference is now in question.

Right from the opening crawl my apprehensions about watching Ep.1 and being disappointed again started to fade, as the words were what I wanted to read. The opening scenes of the Lucas cut are hollow but in the Q2 edit there is now a new dynamic which provides pace and draws you in. At the point when the federation ships descended upon Naboo I moved my chair closer to the TV, lowered the blinds and turned up the volume… could this be the movie I had been waiting for?

Being mindful of my feelings I started to notice something different in myself, I had lost a pressure which normally sat at the top of my head in the form of a frown when watching Ep.1. All the little annoyances that had been present before started to fade; there were things about the original cut I had not noticed bothering me before, I guess I had started to suffer from prequel denial as a coping mechanism against disappointment. My subconscious must have been telling me; surely the PT cannot be that bad… can they? This edit was like therapy for me.

Great ending too!

At 89 mins I had feared v.2 would be too short, not so. It was just right. I wanted to watch it again, straight after the neon blue closing credits appeared; this has never happened to me before with Ep.1.

This movie has been rescued from what was a toy-selling commercial travesty into something those of all ages can now enjoy. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Q2 for your efforts. This cut deserves to be called a Star Wars movie. Episode 1 has finally arrived.

Thank you Q2.
