It's been ages since my wife and I have seen the original, so it's difficult to review against that. I can say, though, that this is a very enjoyable version of the movie. Wakeupkeo had a fantastic idea to enhance this film, and executed it wonderfully. A few parts felt like the narrative was rushed, or something was cut to better smooth out from one point to another, but I have a feeling that the original was a bit jerky to begin with, and by whatever means were taken this edit was great at a < 90 min runtime. I recommend this one! Great work!

A great edit by a fantastic editor. Only a few small audio problems here and there due to the channels being muddy, so I understand the odd bits and pieces that couldn’t be helped. But overall a fantastic edit. The black and white and added Miles Davis tracks from Elevator to the Gallows really worked wonderfully to aid the trimmed narrative and better characterization into a fun noir, despite the horrendous makeup.

Dick Tracy, i haven't watch this movie since my childhood. Really loved this black & white edit, we move from a nice goofy and colorful 90's movie to a very good singular noir film. Enjoyed it a lot.

I'm a fan of the original and I am happy to say I'm happy with this take on the story. For anyone who felt the original was to over the top or couldn't handle the comic book color this edit is the one you are looking for! There is a nice and tight Noir thriller that has been brought to the light with this edit. Between the sharpening of Tracy's devotion and faithfulness to Tess (which I liked from the Trueheart edit) and the new score this edit is the one I'll recommend in the future to people who didn't like the original.

I've done some B&W conversions on still images so I know it can be hard to find a good conversion for everything and there are some scenes were the midtones are just wrong and others where the editor seems to have been unable to find a way to keep the high contrast, sharp B&W look they used everywhere else. Particularly the crucial scene when Tracy looks down on Tess at the end and the Chief's face a few scenes later it looks particularly bad but given the quality of the rest of the conversion I have to fault the source and not the editor. Perhaps if we someday get a 4K HDR release of this film another go could be made at those couple scenes with more success.

I had watched this movie as a kid when it was in theaters. I had good memories of it, but had given up on trying to watch it as an adult - the movie seemed too outlandish and childish for me to get back into. I was excited to learn about this fanedit and watched it recently. It's very well-done and captures the spirit of the original without the jolting kids-movie elements that initially turned me off to this as an adult. I won't say this is a mature adult film now, because the base footage is just never going to compare to films like The Dark Knight or Logan, but this fanedit is about as good as this film can get.

The soundtrack additions are seamless and add a lot to the film, really making this feel like a noir film and matching the black and white aesthetic. The edits themselves are well done and nothing is jolting or out of place. If you didn't already know this was a fanedit, you probably wouldn't be able to tell.

Bravo to Wakeupkeo for taking on a challenging film and making it palatable, allowing me to rediscover some of those childhood memories.
