"Aliens", being a James Cameron classic and arguably the best movie of the Alien franchise, was always going to be a good movie. However, I could see why Drake's line of "Leave her! Who cares?" and Burke's cocoon sequence was removed. The Drake line made him look like a dick, and Burke's cocoon not only slowed the pace but was meant to elicit sympathy for a character that earned none. He got his comeuppance earlier in the movie. The quality of the visuals of those sequences were noticeably different, considering they were pulled from the deleted, unfinished scenes. (And none of these detriments are the fault of the faneditor, you work with what you have to work with.)

The Special Edition of "Aliens" would get 10/10 across the board. "Aliens" with the Burke cocoon sequence and the Drake line gets a 9/10.

It's a tragedy that I had to watch Aliens a second time, hot on the heels of Bobson's other edit of this tremendous sequel, but alas, these are the sacrifices one makes for one's hobbies...

But seriously, folks, this is another great crack at Aliens, and I'm glad to have more snippets woven back into this masterpiece. I'll admit, having been a bit spoiled by the "No Hope Edition" I skipped over the Hadley's Hope sequence here too, and that definitely added to the experience. The main draw here, the titular scene of Burke in the hive, is interesting but ultimately tonally unnecessary. We've seen Burke get his xenomorphic comeuppance, seeing him later on as a pathetic victim just elicits unearned sympathy from the viewer.

I'd love to see an "expanded No Hope Edition" down the road, with the snippets from this version, but without either Hadley's Hope or Burke's cocooning. If I have to flip a coin in the future to decide which edit to watch, there's much worse problems one could have.

A true and full release of the original Aliens cut.

Superb in both audio and visual quality and an even better color grading than the original. Burke's ultimate demise made me all the more satisfied with it being incorporated on-scene. The short burst of character building incorporated in the cut might seem unnecessary at first but it fully fleshes out the finer motives of each.

I highly recommend this cut for those wanting for more of the finer details of Aliens!
