Talk about a re-haul just by re-framing. This is it. Vanishing Point now feels like it was supposed to look in the first place. 15MaF did a great job, there are no noticeable vertical movements. Excellent fix of Blu-ray's oversharpened edges. Only thing I'm gonna nitpick is the typeface treatment with stroke and shadow, different from original titles that have only shadow (compared to UK Cut that I have).. I like the treatment of the new ending, I'd maybe go with heavier grain to mimic optical processiing from the 70s.
A film I have watched numerous times. Indeed, I first saw this the way it was meant to be viewed, at a drive-in, in the early 1970‘s. This carried a heady, late 60’s vibe of freedom vs control.
For me. 15MaF’s version is something between an edit and a preservation. Minor tweaks and restoration.
Filesize = 4.9 GB. Video = 1920 X 832. Audio = 5000 kbps, 5.1 AAC. No subs.
Straight off, this is HEVC h265, which neither my BluRay nor my main computer could handle. I downgraded this to h264, and that is the version I watched. If at all possible, watch as 15MaF crafted!
As indicated, the editor has cropped this for a greater widescreen experience. This is hit and miss for me. I live in a region under what could be defined as big sky. That is missing in this, though it is a wider experience for the eye.
The sound mix throbs! Everything seems dialed to 11, which the way to experience those supercharged V8’s. Although no subtitles, dialogue is clear.
The Charlotte Rampling sequence is included, edited in nicely. Her dialogue is stilted, acceptable for a chimera, and a quiet breath before the final rush.
Extras include an alterative, alternative ending.
Gearheads, get this! Pedal to the floor.
If you're going to watch this movie, this is probably the way to watch. That said, I can't recommend watching this movie. (Thoughts on it in detail are here: https://boxd.it/32NfOF)
This film flopped on release, then got something of a cult following after finding a bit of success in the UK. If, like me, you were thinking of picking up an old copy just to watch this fanedit, you might want to save your $10. I just didn't connect with it at all. Watch the car race scenes on Youtube instead.
No fault of the editor though. This edit is technically flawless and I think the aspect ratio works well. I didn't have the heart to knock the "enjoyment" score of the edit down to a 2 simply because I didn't like the film itself. I wasn't in the cult, but other viewers might find it enticing.
Thank you for making this fanedit!
The audio and video quality was awesome - noted the audio from the download was a 6channel mix which was nice.
The Video was very sharp and I liked the slimmer Aspect ratio conversion to 2.35:1. Made sense! NIce intro discussing your changes.
Subtle Changes - nicely done , smooth, and not awkward. Bonus - Cleaned up picture, and some of the transitions and effects in the original move were improved - compare the scene approx 10 minutes into the movie when the white and black car meet, freeze, and the white car fades out - this fanedit completely fixes the flawed effect used in the 70s....so I bet there are other improvement like that.
Thank you for including the deleted scene from the UK Cut, too. I've always liked it and it makes sense with the original concept as well as the concept the fanedit agrees with.
Final scene - loved it and yes, it is just enough special effect to show the original concept of Kowalski's transformation.
I have the DVDs of the US Cut which sounded and looked nicer, but preferred watching to UK Cut which did not look and sound as nice. YOUR fanedit - gives me what I'm looking for and will BE the version I PLAY when I'm feeling the urge to watch Vanishing Point! Thank you and please continue your work!
PS if you have a MORE superior download of this fanedit, but not the one you give out because of size, etc - I would like to make arrangements to get your BEST QUALITY VERSION of this fanedit. Please message me!
Oh how I remember how much fun this movie is. A car chase up there with Bullitt. Only 5 Chargers used all stock. I want one. Just give me some uppers and half way across the country I go. Oh the 1970s...lol. Pure entertainment made better with the changes. I got the link downloaded it and watched. Kept my attention throughout.I am not really looking at these edits for techie stuff just entertainment. because these fanedits have become the theatres to go to. Two bags of popcorn helped out. Now what do I do with the other 22 hours of today? Thanks for the work and effort. Look forward to other edits from you.
