Betrayal and revenge are at the centre of the black heart of episode 5. This is truly a unique Star Wars experience as we spend almost the entire running time with our villains as they plot and scheme against one another and vie for power, seemingly unconcerned in the moment about the jedi or the clone wars, which suggests a level of confidence that makes them that extra bit sinister. Darth Maul's return to the screen as a broken minded, 4-legged monster is a welcome one, especially as he isn't alone, but joined by his brother who grows more powerful everyday (the jedi can't catch a break). Of smudgers five films, this is the most narratively coherent and only left me wanting more.
