These are the kind of edits I like the most: those that fix obvious flaws from original sources to create a plausible Hollywood-quality improved version. A lot of credit should go to the VFX creators, which fit greatly with the original practical ones, but the same can be said from the excellent visual and audio editing. From now, this is the definitive version to watch!

Just one very minor nitpicking detail: even though the new VFX shots are of great quality, they may look a little to clean/CGI compared to the original footage when compared to the original optical/practical effects. Maybe this could be improved with a mild combination of grain+soft+chromatic aberration filters on those shots which could make them feel more 'analog'.

I wonder if the director's cut version could also have the same treatment and thus create a true director's special edition, much like the official ST:TMP DC. I'm aware of the other cut based on the DC with almost all VFXs replaced, but I much prefer this more subtle approach.

Like a lot of films of that era, the VFX were basic and I feel let films like this down. The replacement VFX's fix what was wrong with the original version of this film. The VFX's sit very well next to the live action elements of the film now, delivering a fully immersive film that is superior to the original release.

I spotted a couple of audio issues, that have already been reported by other form members. I do have a technical suggestion for future revisions of this edit, which is to add film grain to some of the VFX shots that are a little too crisp compared to the live action sequences.

A very enjoyable watch and would highly recommend Wraith's edit. Excellent work and thanks for sharing!

To be fair, I'don't mind the classic effects of the original movie, although the reuse of some effects from the first film could have been avoided.

This edit is incredible! I can't even imagine the work that has been done to get these results. It's the same excellent movie you remember, but with better VFX that do not seem out of place or intrusive.

My only complaint is that in several instances the fps drops sharply, for a couple os seconds, when we transition to a scene with the new VFX. So, the picture is 'jumpy' for those couple of seconds.

I highly recommend this edit to anyone who want a refreshing experience with an already excellent movie!

Thank you Wraith for all your hard work and thanks to anyone who read my review!

I was checking through my Letterboxd diary and realized I hadn't reviewed this version. Not that I needed an excuse to rewatch it, but I did anyway.
I don't think there's anything more I can add that the other reviews haven't already touched on. I also noted the frame skips on certain shots when they transitioned from one to the other. It doesn't however ruin the experience in any way. Great additions to my favourite Star Trek film. Thank you Wraith.

I am AMAZED by this edit by Wraith. Not because it's the general 'cut or add this' approach, but rather taking a near perfect movie and bringing its effects up to the same level without going overboard. I loved every moment of the movie more because it now feels like there was a bit more 'polish' with the special effects. Nothing egregious or completely overhauled. But more like taking a DVD quality movie and cleanly upgrading it to 8K!!

FANTASTIC work here, friend. Thanks for the effort. And I can't wait to see you give some other underserved FX movies the same Wraith improved treatment!
