As a fan of Rogue One I was pretty interested to watch this edit, knowing it basically just the big ending battle presented as a short film. But, I think the editor did a really great job making it seem like more than just the battle. The opening crawl is great, as is how it leads into the opening scene of this edit. The editing is seamless and there were a few parts that if I didn't know there should have been something there I wouldn't have noticed. The editor did an awesome job putting this together. The audio is pretty nice too, and all the music selections seemed to fit the scenes nicely. There were a few times the music seemed a bit louder than the dialogue, but it wasn't off putting or anything.

All in all, I'm very impressed with the edit and I'm really glad I got the opportunity to watch it.

When I first saw rogue one I left feeling disappointed. I felt that the first half was weak but the final act was amazing, some of the best star wars content yet. This edit takes the best part of Rogue One and makes it feel like a pilot for a Star Wars tv series. The editing is amazing, it was hard to tell what was cut and where. The rescoring is flawless and visual quality is top notch. Check this edit out if you disliked rogue one or even loved it. Great edit will be replacing the main film on my shelf.

The first scene works very well like this, it’s a nice change of pace.

I’d be in favor of removing / chaining the edit’s introduction to K-2SO (first time talking to Jyn), in particular him saying “Cassian said I had too”, it makes no sense here. The change of Jyn’s speech before the battle actually works, I thought that was one of the things I’s miss but apparently the original is not that special.

Regarding Chirrut’s scene, I’m not 100% sold on the new score (that was the only point of contention to me in the audio of this edit), I might have preferred the idea of lowering the audio. This would create a moment of quiet in the middle of all the chaos, although in this we still have such a moment later with Baze Malbus. So, I’m not sure what would work the best.

What I am sure is I hate the giant “cigar cutter” during Jyn’s climb. It is utter ridiculous in the original. That could be cut for sure.

The change in score is superb. I could feel the rising tension on several scenes due to new songs, they add a lot of color.

Thanks for this!

So this take on R1 is a little love/hate scenario for me, personally.
Do i recommend this edit? For sure!

To explain myself a bit more in depth:
I was very fond of the theatrical cut of R1 even with its slow pace and some unnecessary "plot" points, so i thought: "how interesting is that, a cut only to take place in the last hour?" I´d had to adapt to this cut and see it as it is intended - a fast firework before a anh. Once i did, quite awesome.

Only let down was the audio as mentioned from other reviewers.

First of all I really enjoy this edit for many reasons. I love that now if I want to watch the saga in order it serves as the perfect gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. While I do really enjoy the main characters of the film, they are relatively unimportant to the Skywalker saga. You don't need to see their arch or journey in the film for this reason. Yet you still have Bail Organa, Mon Mothma, Vader, Leia, and Tarkin in the film making it worth watching if you want to watch the saga in order.

OVERALL PROS: It is a great edit worth watching especially if you just want rogue one to be an interlude between Episodes 3 & 4.
It makes the film even better if you watch a ROTS edit with the deleted scenes about the formation of the rebel alliance.
I loved the structure of the film most of all. Starting with Vader and ending with him was a superb idea.
The opening crawl is much needed and fits amazing.

CONS: I think the scene of Chirrut's death is moreso ruined with the audio editing during the scene. The added music for most of the edit for me is out of place and felt unwelcome. This is basically the only gripe I have even though it is a MAJOR one in my opinion.

The edit is a great edition to the site. Thanks eldusto!
