I watched the original, but walked away disappointed, feeling like something was lacking and unable to put my finger on what. Then I saw the video and conversations about editing the middle acts to the beginning. So I waited a while to let myself forget about the arguments in favor of the edit, and to forget the story. I watched Passengers: Aurora with a nearly fresh set of eyes, having done my best to not remember the decent but bland theatrical release. I can confidently say that whether it is watched in a vacuum having never seen the official release, or if you watch macmilln's version soon before/after the theatrical release - Passengers: Aurora is a flawless edit. The cuts are masterfully done - you'd be hard pressed to even tell that this was done by a fan, and not a directors cut on a hidden menu of a DVD. The story is told so much better this way, and at no point is there a jarring cut like I would have expected for trying to piece together a story told from the point of view of a different primary character.
