M4's The Hobbit Book Edit

This was my first foray into Fan Edits in general, and I'm glad it was such an excellent one to better compare with others. I think the narrative choices and colour corrections were great! It seemed like an impossible task removing the White Council, but it doesn't feel too odd that Gandalf kept leaving the party for mysterious reasons.

My only gripe is the Intermission. With the goal of meshing this edition with the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions, it shouldn't have an intermission and it feels jarring. I edited the intermission out myself for future viewings, and it doesn't feel too bad at all. Maybe adding a scene of day turning into night would make it better?

Overall this edit is great, and it's my go-to when re-watching the series.

If you are looking for a single movie-book accurate edit, this is the best that you can find. It's really long and there are moments that are a bit inconsistent but I don't think it could be done better with the existing footage. As for the technical aspect, this edit is perfect, I really liked the color correction here.

This is absolutely my favorite Hobbit fanedit, personally.

I love what's been done with Smaug leaving the mountain and the Bard moments with the arrow.

While other edits have come close, to me, that Smaug bit and the Bilbo finds the ring on the ground are the most seamlessly cut and immersion-retaining, so for me, this is my definitive Hobbit experience. I'll eventually watch my blu-rays again but for now, this will be the version I'll return to.

This edit actually made me love this movie! I love every choice made. From limiting Legolas, to removing awkward Dwarf/elf romance, to limiting the last movie to about 30 minutes, M4 showed me that behind all the bloat was actually a charming movie that I quite enjoyed and would watch again. This is what Fan Edits are made for.: to show the beauty behind the corporate greed of making three movies from something that should've only been two. I am in awe at the transformation!

M4's The Hobbit is easily the best Hobbit edit around. Under the mountain of unnecessary subplots and physics-defying cgi, lies a legitimate adaption of Tolkien's book.
The end of the first movie was expertly edited and inserting the intermission here was a smart move. Using cgi to replace Bard's son with part of the tower was a great idea. The fight between Thorin and Azog is easier to watch without the "jumping out of the ice" fiasco and the battle is wrapped up before it overstays its welcome. I must also mention the cool cover designs and disc art M4 included that demand a spot on your media shelf.
Every choice made in this edit honored the source material and kept the story on Bilbo but didn't sacrifice any element of this epic journey for the sake of runtime. Consider this the definitive adaption of the Hobbit.
