I rather enjoyed this edit. While the video quality wasn't very good (even accounting for the fact it's from a DVD), the narrative and audio make up for it.

Three cheers for Jorge. He really went to town and his “Hellblazer” is a very strong fanedit of “Constantine”. I’ll have to go back to my copy of the original for comparison, but this may be the better cut of the film! No mean achievement. I like the addition of the subtitles during the club scene though it would have been nice had the voices been louder. i.e. just barely audible instead of completely buried in the music. I rather like the idea of Ellie and JC conversing in some other ancient “hellish” language (Tolkien’s Elvish might have worked too for a nicely geeky-yet-demonic touch since it’s a fully-functioning language). Still, providing the grit of their conversation was a good idea. Unlike JCPRuckus I had no problem with the two Evanescence tunes added to the soundtrack. I found them to work very well in the context of the mood of “Hellblazer”. Good choices IMO though the Dutch prog-metal band The Gathering might have been even better given the gothic-horror-novel feel of their 90s albums. Like joebshmoe I also didn’t miss the insect monster encounter. “Hellblazer” is definitely a fanedit I shall point others towards and one I will watch again next time I’m in the mood for an occult/action hybrid.

awesome. a little editing goes a long way here and this is a much improved version to the original. the deleted scenes really add to the story (and heat it up a bit!) and the ridiculous monster is cut. in addition, this seems a much more “internal” movie as we follow john. i connect with the character a lot more.

I actually kind of liked the original, but I missed absolutely nothing that Jorge cut in this version. The stuff about the staff wasn’t important. Adding in him having sex with the demon, that was important. (At least I don’t recall that being in the original.) I think this version is better than the original. If forced to give a rating I’d give it a 4 or 5 out of 5.

If I watch the movie again, it will be this version.

A/V Quality - Audio was great! The video however was pixelated in certain parts and I noticed combing throughout the whole movie. Watchable but annoying.

Visual Editing - Great!

Audio Editing - Great as well!

Narrative - I loved how this was re-ordered. It really worked. I liked that the scavenger with the spear is saved for the third act. And for the most part the addition of the deleted scenes worked for me as well. I hated that Ellie was cut, for the most part, from the theatrical release. I did find myself being pulled out of the experience on a couple of occasions. The added taxi scenes in the beginning were obviously not the same car so it messed with the continuity. In the bowling alley scene with Chas and John, the song Going Under just seemed out of place to me. The only other time in the film a song with lyrics is used is at Midnite's and it makes sense because it's a club. I would have rather heard more of the film's score which was used beautifully overtop of some of the other deleted scenes. The montage before the Ellie bed scene didn't seem to fit either even though I did get a chuckle out of the bump ahead sign. The addition of Ellie at Midnite's didn't work for me at all. I thought the subtitles was a great idea to fix the repetition of the earlier bed scene, but the dialogue just didn't work with the added British-ness to it. The deleted scenes at the end with Ellie at the hospital and John at Chas' grave were perfect!

Enjoyment - Despite the video quality and the occasional instance of being pulled away from the movie, I did enjoy this edit.

Thank you Jorge! :]X
