Brief Synopsis:
After reports of flooded mines, the small town of Kitamatsu is shaken by reports of the death of multiple miners by mysterious circumstances. What was the cause of death? Why are the mines flooding? What is the secret hiding in the heart of the mountain?
Intention:
I once heard someone say that if you ended Rodan right after the titular monster makes his first appearance, then it would be an H.P. Lovecraft story. The idea fascinated me to the point where I knew I just had to make this edit.
Other Sources:
Akira Ifukube - Symphony Concertante for piano and orchestra (1941)
Akira Ifukube - Ballet ‘Drumming of Japan’ Jakomoko Janko
Akira Ifukube - Triptyque Aborigène (1937)
Akira Ifukube - Piano Suite (1933)
Rodan's Theme - Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II
Special Thanks:
Editzilla for pointing me in the direction of Akira Ifukube's orchestral work.
Thomas Nicol for putting the idea of making this into my head.

Editing Details:
I re-edited the film to be a silent movie. This was to make the changes to the plot work as well as to make the film aesthetically closer to a work by H.P. Lovecraft.
I ended the film around the time when Rodan makes his first appearance to give the film a more Lovecraft-inspired ending.
I cut out the explanation of the origins of the Meganulons to make them more of an unknowable horror.

Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and I loved the creativity behind the whole project! Made me feel nostalgic for an era of film that I didn't even grow up in.

The music was great, and the scenes you chose really captured the charm of films from that era. Overall I thought the dialogue were great, but my only issue lies in the pacing of some of them. There would be times were a lengthier cards that were preceded by fairly short bits of conversation, or prolonged conversations that had short or no cards associated with them. Overall however, this was very minor and did not detract from the viewing experience as a whole.

This was a very interesting idea, and well executed! I really enjoyed the short story you told and the overall sense of dread was very well maintained. It felt like a Junji Ito story come to life, who is of course himself very influenced by Lovecraftian ideas.

I thought you did a great job matching the music to the scenes, and your dialogue cards were very eloquently written, great choice of words! It was a fun watch!

Thank you very much for your kind words! I’m glad that you liked the writing of the intertitles as that was the hardest part of this edit to nail. I appreciate your glowing review!
