Both original films are very mediocre, so coming up with something that takes the best of both and puts them together and is much more enjoyable is quite the accomplishment. No real narrative from the first film carries through to this version, we just get the stellar action sequence from the end of the first film. I guess the issue with this fanedit is that no matter what you do with these films there isn't enough monster based story to totally remove the very annoying humans. Given this very limiting constraint this fanedit is very good indeed.

This is a great edit of some very flawed movies. I do miss some action scenes from Godzilla 2014 but I do appreciate the improvements made here. The people portion of the story is condensed which eliminates a lot of the portions that dragged in these movies. Totally enjoyable if massive destruction is your thing.

For someone who never liked Godzilla '14, I wanted to give it another try through the edit. It still didn't work for me, but even then I'll rate enjoyment as a neutral 7.0 so as not to judge the edit by the sources.

As for narrative, I thought ~20min last act from the first movie as opening only dragged what could have been just (and satisfyingly so) an edit of the second one. For projects like this I like to pretend I'm a newcomer to the franchise, but to see those familiar faces given close-ups and screen time with no narrative resonance took me completely out of it. As it is, being dropped straight into a nonsense military op reminiscent of a Nolan movie that has something to do with giant monsters fighting each other, why should we care about celebrity cameo (supposed to be anonymous) marine and his family reuniting at a shelter? I think the whole opening would be more suited as an introduction to that universe if it wasn't preceded by that news footage exposition about invading monsters. Actually, I think it would be better to either be very objective with the opening and cut out Kickass guy, or completely get rid of the sequence and only keep the news footage as sufficient explanation for the state of affairs in KOTM. I've never watched the second movie before, so I cannot tell whether any narrative improvements to it were accomplished or not. Also, whats the point of the place and date titles for the opening? As far as I remember that's not revisited afterwards in the edit with "present day" or something like that - and the text doesn't match any other from the second movie.

The render AV quality isn't ideal. These are very dim movies (the first one, at least) and some scenes here suffer with compression artifacts. I don't have the proper equipment nor the expertise to rate the audio accordingly, but didn't come around any obvious setbacks in that department.

As others have said, however, it still is an improvement over the originals. I didn't want to come off as contemptuous, so I hope this is helpful feedback. Thank you Malthus for making this alternative possible and for the opportunity to see it.

This is a great way to watch the best parts of both Godzilla movies. Far more focus on the action and monsters. Removes any unnecessary human elements.

Unlike what others have said, I would have like to see even less of the human side (not sure how that would affect narrative though). For me, that's because in KOTM, the humans are aggressively stupid with their decision making. So I'd rather have less idiotic decisions shown, even if that means a slight break in the narrative (what little is there).
[Note to Malthus: this is not a slight against your edits, only the original movie, just to be clear]

The edits/cuts Malthus had made make sense and I found myself wishing the original movies moved at the pace Malthus' edit does.

Overall, this is a huge improvement from the 2 individual movies. Fantastic work Malthus!

Surprisingly, a good edit. I honestly want to like both films, but they have too many bad qualities to formally recommend watching them separate. I thought the inclusion of the intro scene being the only scene from Godzilla (2014) was genius, and was actually the best part of this edit. There were a few little choppy moments of the video in this scene, but probably just from the render though.

After this scene comes KOTM. This part of the edit tries to help fix the boring human story of KOTM, but I just don't think anybody can accomplish that. If I had any criticism for the edit's version of KOTM it would be a few things.
1st, some of the characters were kind of just introduced without any knowledge of to who they were, mainly involving everybody in the whole main family.
2nd, and idk if this was the just the render or not, but somehow the cgi looked worse than I remembered. It was so bad that it distracted from the narrative. I don't blame the edit for this, because the cgi in the original movies were already bad enough.
3rd, some of the inserted fonts used seems a little cheap, and did not seem like it worked for a Godzilla movie.
Lastly, and this is just a suggestion, I would honestly remove more of the human stuff from the KOTM section, as it's just plain boring no matter how many times anybody tries to watch it. Trimming it down AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE to let the kaiju fights happen should be imperative.

Overall, this is definitely an improvement from the 2 individual movies, and I would recommend it. A tighter edit on the human story would definitely help though to make this a vastly greater experience for this franchise.
