Brief Synopsis:
A pair of robots wish to become human.
Intention:
So last night I watched Daft Punk's Electroma for the first time and I loved it! The story was so sweet and tragic and the visuals were amazing! The only problem is that its really... slow. Like multiple minutes on end of literally nothing. So I stayed up until 6 am making an briefer version and rescored it to Touch, the song featured in the Epilogue video released Literally every single shot is shortened and every shot in every scene is rearranged and recut to be shorter. I cut out about a half hour. The craziest thing is that I didn't even cut out anything, its the exact same story told the exact same way just way shorter.

Editing Details:
This is the most in depth edit I have ever done. Just look at the timeline! Literally every single shot is shortened and every shot in every scene is rearranged and recut to be shorter. I cut it from 1 hour 7 minutes down to 32 minutes. The craziest thing is that I didn't even cut out anything! It was all just dramatic shots of Thomas and Guy staring at each other. It was really an interesting experience working with this much footage that could be cut since usually with fan edits of stuff like movies, you're margin for editing is really tight because you're only working with 2 or so hours of pre-edited footage. And it wasn't even like when working on a TV to movie edit because even though thats also a scenario where you would cut out a lot, the stuff you cut out of that is actually plot important, whereas here its the exact same story told the exact same way just way shorter.
Cuts and Additions:
Every shot has been shortened and every cut has been redone and each shot in each scene has been reshuffled and recut to flow better and be in sync with the music. Nothing has been cut out, its the same story told the same way only with half the runtime and a different soundtrack.

What an interesting and beautiful edit this is! The cuts were seamless, the story is very interesting despite having no dialogue, and the music choices were very good.
One of the more interesting parts for me was the 2 minutes of silence around 5 minutes in. It surprised me how impactful that silence was.
The fake faces were so grotesque and upsetting, but also very very sad. The bomb scene, his inability to commit suicide, the struggle of loneliness, the repeated chorus of "I need something more!", it all added up to a very moving examination of, I dare say, nihilism at its core.
Fantastic work, and I very much enjoyed it!
