A three-part horror anthology hosted by Boris Karloff.
1. The Telephone. Giallo-style thriller in which a woman is terrorised by her former pimp after his escape from prison, and tries to escape him with the help of her lesbian lover, who has a dark secret of her own.

Intention:
I prefer the italian version in all aspects (Color grading, Music, story) but one, the english language audio track. Most of the cast including several french actors have filimed there scences speaking English so the English audio track has much better sync and performances as a result. Borris Karloff in particular gives a great performance which is hurt by the italian dub.
Additional dialogue added using AI voices as there are scenes in the Italian version which never made it into the AIP version.

Black Sabbath tells three stories, all introduced by Boris Karloff.
The first tale (The Telephone) is about a woman who is receiving threatening calls from a stranger.
The second (The Wurdalak) tells the tale of a family haunted by their father, now a Wurdalek who wants to turn all of his family members into vampires.
In the last story (The Drop of Water) a nurse is preparing the corpse of a gypsy woman befor her funeral. The nurse steals a ring from the corpse and is then haunted by the gypsy.
Black Sabbath released in the U.S. in a much different form than the Italian version.
American International Pictures released the film in the U.S. and made many changes to the film. AIP trimmed various violent moments and re-shot all of Boris Karloff’s introductions to each segment, and inserted new footage into the Telephone segment. They also rearranged the order of the three stories and added a new score by Les Baxter.
The order of the three stories in the original Italian version of the film were The Telephone, The Wurdalak, and The Drop of Water, and the musical score wascomposed by Roberto Nicolosi. In the US it was the Drop of Water, The Telephone, The Wurdulak with a score by Les Baxter. The color and contrast is different from the original italian version. The US version seem overexposed and the picture is zoomed in, as well as the picture being slightly squeezed.
The Telephone in particular had major changes to the plotline. In the Italian version the relationship between Mary and Rosy (in this version a prostitute) has lesbian overtones, and in a plot twist it turns out Mary is the one making the obscene phone calls hoping she can scare Rosy into getting back together with her. In the US version all references to prostitution and lesbianisim are removed and it is ghost who is making the phone calls. The US version also adds some weak unnesesary scenes with a neighbour.

-Kept the original Italian opening and closing credits in there original Italian language except for the movies title "Black Sabbath The Three Faces of Fear".
-New color grade to remove green tint from the Italian version.
-Upscaled footage used from the US version and added a new clolor grade to match Italian footage. Also stretched out the US footage used as it looks squashed.
-Removed the three Borris Karloff scenes that introduce each story in the US version.
-Used the Italian version of Borris Karloff's introduction to the movie.
-AI voice for Borris Karloff added to the final scene as this scene is not in the US version.

The Telephone Notes:
-A newspaper clipping and letter being written by Mary are kept in the original language. AI voice over translates the text although some changes have been made to fix some plot points that otherwise would not make sense.
-Removed US scenes with Rosy's neighbour.
-Restored scene of Mary arriving at Rosy's apartment and Mary posing as Frank on the phone. Used AI to dub Mary and Rosy's lines.
-For the scene where it is revealed that it is actualy Mary who has been calling Rosy posing as Frank I have used an AI voice of Vincent Price (pitched higher) to dub Mary. I could not use the actor who voiced Frank on the phone as he is uncredited and the the phone effect on his voice made it unusable as a basis for an AI voice. As the scene involves a woman pretending to be a man I tried also to use Marys voice and pitch it lower but found this less convincing.
-Removed all supernatural elements that come from the US version.
-New AI dialogue makes references to Frank that he is believed to have drowned while attempting to escape prison but his body has not being recovered. I did this change as the US version dialogue always states that Frank is dead (as it is a ghost story).
-The Italian version implies that Rosy is a prostitue, Frank her pimp and that Rosy and Mary are lesbians. None of this comes accross in the English dub so where AI voices are used I have added some more explicit lines that make this clear.
-Frank's lines after he chokes Mary is taken from Vincent Price in Tales Of Terror (1962)
The Wurdulak Notes:
-Extended 3 scenes using footage from the US version to make them more suspensful.
1. The Kitchen scene where Vlad first meets Sdenka. Now everyone stopps talking when the bell begins to toll.
2. Jump scare when Vlad sneaks up behind Sdenka as she is looking out the window.
3. Vlad returning to the house looking for Sdenka. He spends more time looking around the Kitchen.
