The two most heavily criticized elements of The Wolverine have always been Viper and the Silver Samurai. This edit removes both of those elements, and shockingly, even with most of the third act completely removed, the film works perfectly.

With the new structure, it actually feels like the sword fight between Logan and Shingen is the climax of the film (like Batman fighting the Joker in The Dark Knight), and the ninja battle is just tying up loose ends (like Batman and Gordon confronting Harvey Dent).

Because the Silver Samurai sequence has been removed, the amount of CGI shenanigans is drastically reduced, making the film feel more grounded overall. The base of the edit is the R-rated extended edition, and because the run time has been cut down and an additional f-bomb has been looped into the film, there are more f-bombs per minute, and lots of blood, making this version feel more like Logan.

The icing on the cake is the addition of the “yellow suit” alternate ending, which they didn’t even use in the extended edition, but I always wished they had.

The only line of dialogue that doesn’t make sense to me in this version is when Shingen says to Yukio, “[Logan] killed your master,” which is a reference to Logan denying Yashida’s request for Logan’s healing powers, which is deleted in this edit. It seems to be an artifact of the previous version of the film that slipped through the cracks.

Other than that, this edit is perfect!

EDIT: This fanedit has just been updated, with Shingen's line about Logan killing Yashida removed. Now it really is perfect!
