What a fantastic edit. It's what brought me back to the site after a few years away, just knowing the quality that can be achieved in a fanedit.

Honestly, the original episode IV is not a movie I would ever watch again. I'm not a hardcore fan and more importantly, I find this edit much superior. It's funny, it's deeper, and more intense. Using dialog from other James Earl Jones films is genius (I particularly enjoyed the line from Conan). The bar scene turns from a circus to a really down-to-earth cyberpunk experience. The choice of Neil Young is excellent.

Because the tone can be so dense and serious at times, the humor works really well, like the use of the behind the scenes footage where Lea and Luke are drinking a coke (at least I think it was, I'm reviewing from memory).

All in all a most recommendable edit.

Grindhouse/drive-in is such a great category of fanedit! The flaws become charming!

This is the best fanedit I have seen! It's fantastic.

I thought the previous movie, JAWS, was too long and became boring, but not so with this one!
This is just perfection in it's lack of perfection!

I wrote a review earlier tonight of Robots vs Kung Fu, which is my 2nd favorite after this one.
This movie, War of the Stars still totally hangs together as a film and still manages to be awesome. Whereas I think the MST3K guys would have a field day with Robots vs Kung Fu.

I wish I had more to say, but its all just compliments. I've been recommending it to everyone I know. Perfect running time too. I think these need to be under 100mins to be effective.

Anyway, this is just genius! I have found myself watching it 3 times now and it just gets better.

Many edits attempt to make a movie better. Reinstating deleted scenes, cutting stuff that didn't quite work, completely obliterating the existence of Jar Jar - good stuff. But this is something truly special. It actively tries to make a great movie worse - and does so in the best possible way. I was amazed as to how well A New Hope works as an exploitation flick. The use of an actual 16mm print of the movie works wonders for the visually aged aspect of the film. The other sources are also convincingly damaged. Visual quality in the presentation of that decay is perfect. The special effects are amusingly cheezy and in no way distract from the viewing experience. There is one brief instance where effects are visible on the letterboxing, which can be distracting - but I suspect that most won't notice. If I'm not mistaken, this has been cropped out and corrected in the AVI version, regardless. The new music is completely appropriate and blends in seamlessly. Hearing disco alongside John Williams is a unique experience, to say the least. But the real brilliance of this edit is how the characters were changed. Grindhouse is more than low budget. Grindhouse is sleaze. It's cheap monetarily - and - ethically. All the iconic characters are now worse people than they were in Lucas's vision. Darth Vader is completely insane (and even cooler thanks to a clever editing tactic). Luke is an idiotic weak-willed farm boy with no great destiny. Leia is a psychotic animal murderer. Obi-Wan is every bit the senile fool that he only pretended to be in the real movie. Artoo's a foul mouthed wise-cracking sidekick. And Han? Han shoots first. Every. Single. Time.

I can't recommend this edit enough. It's a masterpiece,.

This is what a fan edit should be. It's the polar opposite of Adywan's A New Hope. For everyone who has seen Star Wars WAY too much and want to see something very new with the film this is the edit for you. There was some stuff I thought was too cheesy but that was easily overpowered by the new stuff and great ideas. All of John Williams music has been taken out and replaced with lame 70's tunes which is surprisingly very awesome. Also the new effects that are added every time Vader uses the force is nothing short of brilliant. I can't wait to watch the next one.

the edit has some laugh out loud moments especially when luke discovers his auntie and unkle are dead, steering out into sunset their faces appear and with the accompanying music added makes it a great comedy moment. what i loved about that scene was that it played it straight and works better than the forced humour. r-2 is the star of the edit with his added subtitles it was a shame he didn't have more lines as there are alot of times he talks but with no titles. the bar scene alone is worth the download i thought it was a shame the scene turned black and white before we entered the bar. vaders new force powers also add to the edit along with the new music added, seeing han and chewey running to a 70′s music back drop brought another laugh out loud moment.

overall it’s a relief to see someone do a star wars fanedit different to the many that have been made before.
