The Revenant was one of my favourite films from last year. I was skeptical of this edit at first. I could see how it would play without the chief's daughter subplot, I didn't think the other changes would work. I really didn't like the idea of losing the horse scene. But after seeing it in action, this edit works wonderfully. Ever cut improves the pace and overall tone of the film. Technically, the picture is beautiful and the editing itself is seamless. I was disappointed with the stereo audio, as scenes like the opener and the cliff jump really come alive with 5.1 surround. I would have liked to see a different title and custom title credits as well. Were it not for the stereo audio, I'd place this above the original and it would easily be my go-to version in the future. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoyed the original.

For ages I've been looking forward to watching Return of the Jedi: The Spence Edit, and this did not disappoint! Inexplicably, though, the entire story takes place on Hoth, and the cinematography seems oddly more fluid than I recall.

Also, this edit was billed as Ewokless, but far as I can tell, everybody looks like a grizzled Ewok, just larger.

Loved the rancor scene.

My only nitpicks would be an "it's" misuse in the burnt-in subtitles and that in a few spots, the audio crackled.

But honestly, I tremendously enjoyed this refreshing take on an old favorite. The Jedi truly returns in badassed muthafucka form.

This edit was exactly what I was looking for, A more focused narrative that focused on the main story. The editing was excellent, Someone who had never seen this movie wouldn’t know anything was changed.

The only downside is the quality of the video and especially the audio is pretty bad. A beautiful movie like this deserves a high quality version!

Bloody Brilliant! Spence has edited a much more tighter and better version of the movie. The removal of the various flashbacks and the chief searching for his daughter subplot was seamlessly removed that after I finished watching this edit I had to go back to see what was actually cut from the movie since I last watched it on DVD. One change I did realise was cut and was the gory horse scene which worked surprising well left out. I also really love the repurposing of the flashbacks scene moved to the healing scene, it felt so much more natural. Overall a much more fantastic, tighter, more focused edit that makes the movie feel less pretentious and keeps the momentum and interest all the way through the movie.

Very nicely done, this edit streamlines the story to its essentials, keeping the movie within a more standard runtime. The editing made the lost material unnoticeable; having seen the original release a couple times upon its release, I didn't find any holes or problems with this edit, though it has cut over 30 minutes from the film.

Being more direct and brief, I do find this a more enjoyable version, and recommend it over the original release.
