If you already like Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, you’re going to love this edit.

I, on the other hand, don’t like The Phantom Menace. I was hoping that restoring the deleted scenes would make it better, and in some cases it did. In others, it didn’t.

Up until after the podrace sequence, most of the additional scenes slowed things down and actually hurt the film more than they helped. These scenes were cut for a reason, and putting them back in didn’t improve the narrative.

However, I did really like all of the scenes that were added back in after the podrace, especially the part where Qui-Gon chops the Sith probe droid in half, and the brief extension of the lightsaber duel on Naboo. These additions actually did improve the quality of the film.

Making The Phantom Menace longer doesn’t fix its many issues, but all things considered, between the two versions, I suppose I do prefer this expanded edition, and I’m glad it exists.
