I'm a huge fan of MST3K (Mystery Science Theater 3000). I own every DVD set spanning the original run. For those unfamiliar with this series, it began as an obscure UHF show in Minneapolis, MN. The video library of the UHF station included many b-movies and Japanese monster flicks common to non-network channels. Series creator Joel Hodgson came up with the idea of broadcasting the movies with humorous running commentaries featuring a silhouette overlay resembling theater seating. The series was later picked up by the Comedy Channel, a newly-launched network that needed to fill large segments of scheduling while keeping overall costs down. Since many of the films utilized in MST3K were either public domain or of little commercial interest, and given that the show could fill two hours of timeslot scheduling, it was a match made in heaven.

Over the course of many years, the episodes of MST3K were slowly released to DVD. One of the Godzilla films made it to DVD, only to be removed shortly thereafter due to a licensing dispute. In all, twelve movies never made it to DVD due to similar disputes:

I own all the official DVDs; they are a treasured part of my collection. At this time, I have poor vhs-quality copies of the missing episodes. What SeaCom has done here is nothing short of ASTOUNDING. These are higher-quality than the official DVD releases of the other titles. SeaCom has combined High Definition copies of the films with the original segments and rendered overlays, cleverly incorporating widescreen with the original full-frame elements. The quality is simply AMAZING.

This is MORE than a "fanedit," this is full-on PRESERVATION of episodes that would NEVER see an official DVD release, and that makes this work absolutely ESSENTIAL for both historical reasons while providing maximum enjoyment. I cannot recommend this enough; you simply MUST have a copy!
