Brief Synopsis:
I absolutely adore Leslie Nielsen. I love the Naked Gun and Police Squad, although I feel the latter hasn't aged all that gracefully. The good parts are terrific, but jokes are re-used in each episode up to the point where you are annoyed and it feels lazy. So I aimed to fix that and effectively make a fourth Naked Gun movie instead.
Intention:
I made this edit out of my love for Leslie Nielsen, and to accomplish three things:
- Editing a comedy
- Making a TV-to-Movie edit

Special Thanks:
ArtisDead for making an excellent poster. You have truly outdone yourself. This is the new bar you've set for yourself.

Phase3 and WilliamRedRobin for test viewing this and giving some great feedback.

Cuts and Additions:
Changelist:

- The movie starts and ends with the final episode
- Inserted a visual gag when the poisoned victim is hallucinating based on feedback by the wonderful @Phase3
- Title credits changed to include the new title
- I took every episode and tried to make a coherent narrative as possible while having these casefiles happen semi-simultaniously.
- Removed episode 2 entirely for not being funny
- Remove all the cold opens, except for the last episode. We now find out about them as the main characters find out about them
- Remove every scene with the shoeshine boy that happens in each episode, as they are pacing killers.
- Remove every joke that's repeated too much, every joke is only done once, unless they cannot be cut
- Remove jokes that have been done in the movies, as this intended to be prequel to the Naked Gun trilogy
- Added one narration joke based on feedback by the great and magnificent WilliamRedRobin
- Inserted one little editor's joke for out fellow editors

Forget thin blue lines, this is all about the thick red lines ;)

I was unable to get though the original series of 'Police Squad' as not too much of a fan of dated TV stuff but this really highlights the highlights of the genius behind 'The Naked Gun' that I wore the VHS out on, back in the day. One can get over the boxed aspect-ratio in this format. Too busy getting the giggles to care. Not to mention I found stretching it by a few clicks looked good. Still one wonders if AI may be employed to fill it out for a widescreen experience. Things may be added in to heighten comedy and possibly draw in references to the later films. Like underwear, posters of Raquel Welch, various hints at an obsession with Oscars. Hilarious stuff like that. Yea.

Loved the original police academy and naked gun movies, so this was a treat to watch. There were a ton of hilarious gags used, especially the famous "Cover me!" bit, but I never felt especially compelled to watch the series.

This edit was the perfect way to still enjoy the iconic jokes.

The only complaint I have is at around 1:10:35, theres a cut where Leslie comes up with bruises/paint on him, before cutting back to normal. But this could just be me missing the joke from that scene too lol.

Its been a while since I've watched a really good comedy movie for the first time and this edit was beautiful.
I watched the edit with my entire family who usually dislike newer movies (action scenes too fast and jokes are not that funny) but they really liked this one comedy was good and movie was at normal pace. I must really thank you DonkeyKonga for this amazing edit and I'll watch your other edits as well.

As others have said, this is a really, really enjoyable composition. To really enjoy this, it helps to have a sincere appreciation for the source material. There are a number of things about the original that are working against a successful composition here (as the editor noted, repetitive use of some schticks across episodes, tricky pacing, credit overlays), but DonkeyKonga has somehow used that in advantageous ways.

There are a couple of rough spots that result from sticking to the vision (e.g., an abrupt edit away from one of the "let's say..." lines) but, to my delight, it all works and really preserves the best parts of the series without being fatiguing or feeling choppy.

Nicely done!

Franklin "Frank" Drebin, the fictional quirky cop from the Police Squad! television series and The Naked Gun movies played by Leslie Nielsen is a true classic creration...up there with Peter Seller's Cluseau....and what a hoot it is to have a fourth movie to enjoy the hellzapoppin antics.

The technicals are all good, and sure, the narrative is a smorgasbord, but that just adds to the intended mayhem...which you just have to sink yourself into and move allong with the river of jokes, puns, visual gags and so much more...

No nitpiks from moi...just shear unadulterated craziness all round...

We need to laugh more, and I prescribe this required medication to be taken thrice daily before meals (to prevent projectile ejection of food)...

SUPER!
