As soon as the Massive Attack song kicks in the first scene in slo mo, man, you feel you're in good hands and oh boy did it deliver! Alright, the original movie had plotholes and goofy-af holes, and this masterfully crafted edit gets rid of most of them holes and paves a new road to enjoyment :) The only downside at times is, the vocal track gets muffled every now and then by the newly added music tracks, not always, but for us nerds slightly noticeable. NOT a deal breaker whatsoever.
The movie is clearly clearly better and you'd be remiss if you didn't want to watch it.
Mess with the best, die like the rest!! ;)
Amazing time spent with this edit, fully recommendable!

Just watched Futon's edit of Hackers and it was awesome! The little tweaks and changes they made throughout were seamless (and very fitting in pretty much every case), and the custom VFX and foley added were very impressive! The music changes were perfect as well!

As a fan of the original version I highly enjoyed this edit of the movie and I think Futon did an amazing job with it! Really glad I got to watch it!

Love everything about this version. Really. The music is awesome. I love trip-hop and all kinds of electronic music. The selections in this edit hit the spot. And the songs left in the edit that are from the original are the only ones you want to actually stay. Futon nails it. The movie itself is absurd but it has an aesthetic that helped garner it's cult following. Here in this edit, those vibes hit different because of the music changes. Massive Attack kills it.

This is a fatastic edit that lets the best elements of the original film shine through. The cosmetic enhancements to the VFX are subtle, the new music is expertly mixed in to the extent that I had to check which songs were added for the fanedit, and the trims and excisions were all made with such finesse that, without knowing something was removed, you wouldn't know it watching the edit.

All in all, a great example of fanediting being able to bring out the best of a promising but flawed film.

OK, watching this edit reminded me of how thorn I was over the original one.
The (original) film has a very nice potential of being a good hacker movie (representing what hackers really were like in the 90's)
It had a very nice cast, a banger soundtrack and a mouthwatering lineup of old laptops.
And then they screwed it by marinading draining, and choking it in "Hollywood hacking:"

What this edit does is take the already amazing music score to unseen heights, and it is done in such a smooth technical perfect way that I would like to give an 11 for audio editing...

Videro whise it is commemorable that some screens are already replaced with decent command line (NMap?) outputs
but this is where this edit could really grow and shine
get rid of al the 3d file system navigation
replace the towers of transparent glas panes by real server racks

I know that this is a HUGE undertaking but that is what would bring this edit into the stratosphere

enjoyment was "only" an 8, but if you take in account that i would give the original film a 3 it is a HUGE improvement.

Tl;Dr
very nice edit
I can't wait to see the "hold my beer" version after my comments.
(disclaimer; me having no experience at all with FanEdits, I would really like to learn and help with making that "hold my beer" version happen)

Also: I think "the 56k upgrade" is an amazing name
