Brief Synopsis:
The character of Max Max Rockatansky is entirely removed from the movie. The only leftover is a random, nameless 'blood bag' strapped to Nux's car in the first part of the movie. Apart from that - he's gone. And the story still makes perfect sense :)
Intention:
I totally love that movie. But I've always felt this movie isn't exactly about Max. And one day, to prove my point, I decided to do a fanedit (didn't know the term then) and entirely remove his character from the film. And I did it. As I mentioned above, the story proved to still make sense without him.
Additional Notes:
I used only editing tools (cutting, reframing, stretching and speeding up shots), no vfx. The closest to VFX was one shot graded from day to night.
Special Thanks:
Thanks to TM2YC for guidance, advice and patience in the process of getting my fanedit towards approval.
And to my wife for patience and understanding that sometimes I just need to do something creative like this :)

Editing Details:
I used the 4K Blu Ray as a base, which allowed me to crop up to 200% into shots and still be able to deilver the final edit in 1080p. For some shots I used pixel motion type algorythms (eg. optical flow i Adobe Premiere) to slow them down or even went as far as animate a still (by adding film grain / noise and slight camera zoom in or out). For one shot i graded it day to night and added stars to the sky.

Overview - An audacious, ballsy effort, removing one of the singular characters from a feature.
Mad Max, without Max. This cannot work. It has “fail” all over it.

Video - 1920 X 800 mov (which my system could not read, so I converted to mp4). Transitions and cuts are cleverly done. Damnit, I kept looking for Max (note, while glimpsed, he is unimportant). There are probably too many fade-to-blacks for my liking, but the editor disguises this with an ongoing audio mix that stitches scenes.

Audio - 1536 kbps LPCM 2-Channel stereo. No subs. Stereo, really? Yes, subs and stereo are my usual nitpicks, especially for high performance flicks. Eh, deal with it, loser. The sound is high octane, with no jarring flaws.

Narrative - None of the Max films are penetrating character observations, nor packed with plot nuances. A full bore action ride, one expects incoherence now and then, compensated with throat stopping stunts. There are a lot of cuts throughout, but this holds together for me. The original film is one I have watched numerous times, however. Someone viewing this cold may be puzzled by motivations.

Enjoyment - I enjoyed this. I appreciated it. I cannot believe how well Amadi pulled this off. While not an edit I would watch repeatedly (it just feels incomplete to me), the editing is a master class. In fact, I envision this editor readily finding work as a Hollywood axe-man. Whenever a star becomes a troublesome prima donna, the studio could hire Amadi the Eraser.

Really cool edit. The ending drags a little editted this way, but the story overall works better. After all, this was a movie about the driver, not the blood bag. There were a few zoomed in / cropped shots that looked obvious, but that was mostly when people were standing around talking. The editing of the action was almost perfect, just the odd shot of Max's foot or leg while someone else was kicking ass. The ONLY thing I really missed was the fist fight between Max and the driver, it might be my favorite scene in the movie. But I can't dock a no-Max edit for not including a Max fight.

I wouldn't call this a replacement, but I don't think that was the goal anyway. I would recommend watching this to get the most out of the STORY of Fury Road with 90% of the action intact.

before watching this fanedit i was doubtful that removing max from the movie would leave the movie with massive plot holes and continuity errors, but boy was i wrong, the edit is near flawless with both story and audio intact. the story is fast paced and is cut in a way that if you didnt know that max was originally in the the movie you could never tell, the movie turned from a hero saving women from a tyrant into a movie about women turning against a tyrant and befriending a former tyrant underling. a pure joy to watch.

Great edit, and I think proves its point. The plot still makes sense, and the film is totally watchable. I only found some minor details that hint where an edit was done, but I'm sure someone that does not know this movie would totally eat it.
