Note – While I was a minor participant in the creation of this edit, I dont let that cloud my view when reviewing it. As always, I mean no disrespect and only offer constructive criticism of what I see.

The edit:
Zach and Miri: Extended Workprint Edition is a very nice extended edition. By inserting 20 minutes of deleted scenes we get an already funny movie made funnier.

While Frantic Canadian and I worked on color correcting the scenes they still stick out like a sore thumb and is the reason why this is listed as a “workprint” edition. There are no hard cuts or major technical issues aside from the deleted scenes not being seamlessly integrated.

For instance: the opening scene has no credits running over it but once the added scene ends the credits are back.

another issue is some scenes do not have background music/sound effects (the reunion and bar scene) which can be very distracting. However these issues are overlooked because of the nature of the edit. This is a workprint edition which excuses the quality of the scenes and comedy is comedy – even though the scenes arent completely seamless, they are still very funny.

The DVD:
Not much featured here besides a custom static menu and chapter selection but it looks nice.

Video quality is nice. The deleted scenes added back into the film look slightly worse than the main film but that is due to the source material. The original DVD isnt exactly reference quality and this edit maintains the same level of clarity.

Audio is 2.0 stereo. As always, 5.1 is better but there were no major issues caused by the 2.0 audio. this film is mostly dialog and doesn’t suffer from the stereo track.

The Edits:
on an editing level I thought it was a great firstling effort. a few minor cuts I would have made here and there but thats always something I feel when watching an edit.

Editing: 8 of 10 – As I mentioned there were no major technical issues in the editing only things I would have done differently and most issues were caused by the quality of the deleted scenes, not the editing.

Entertainment: 9 of 10 – I liked the original about an 8 and I thought the added material was funnier than the original so this gets a 9.

Image & Video Quality: Image quality was comparable to the official DVD throughout except for the deleted scenes.
Video Quality: 7 of 10 average ( 8 of 10 for main film 6/10 for deleted scenes)

Audio Editing & Audio Quality: 2.0 audio hurts the score but it wasnt distracting. there were a few instances where the deleted scenes volume levels seemed to differ but for the most part audio editing was very well done. no hard cuts/pops/etc.
Audio Quality: 8 of 10
Audio Editing: 9 of 10

Presentation: Static menu with Play and Scene Selection. Custom menu screens. No sound during menus. Simple but effective but some bonus materials would have been nice.
Presentation: 6 of 10

Final Result: 8 of 10

There are many technical issues present here due to the quality of the deleted scenes not seamlessly matching the quality of the main film which would be cause for denial of approval from me but since this is listed as a workprint edition I dont have any issues granting this extended edition a thumbs up.. Its has rough spots that a more seasoned editor with better tools could fix but in this case, funny is still funny. so, download w/ confidence. just be aware this is a workprint!
