Great work again, Malthus! Perfect, flawless editing, as usual.
I will be honest, I was not really a fan of this movie originally. The only reason I own it is because my wife works at a video store and I get great deals on movies. But what Malthus has done here, they have turned a movie that I didn't care for, into a movie that I rather enjoyed. It is still not a perfect movie, but much better. Nice work! The removal of the cringe romance is exactly what this movie needed.

Overall Malthus' edit is far superior to the original, but I don't think there is any way of saving this film for me. Even without the horrible love plot the writing in this movie is still pretty bad, and the acting of the each lead just takes me out of it. But while I absolutely hated the original, I did enjoy this much more. Malthus did an incredible job here.

The world and visuals are still amazing. Video and audio quality is great (though the credits were weirdly loud. I had to turn it way down). Much less cringe and better pacing throughout. Editing is tight and I didn't notice any cuts for the most part, except for Bubbles' removed death scene, which I saw a tentacle coming out for one shot. I wasn't sure if that was on purpose.

This edit is a tremendous upgrade from the original, but I'm not sure any amount of editing can turn this movie into a great one for me. If you liked the original I think you'll love this edit.

There's this legend that no space opera after A New Hope managed to achieve success in the mainstream, its sad but truth. When Valerian launched my initial impression was "that was nice, but could be great". It was a passion project from a passionate creator, unfortunately it almost bankrupt his own company, and now 5 years later i think Malthus did exactly what i imagined.

No Love Lost shows again that with certain tweaks, some cuts and pacing fixes some things can literally be corrected and give a deserved new life to something. While i was watching this i couldn't even remember the original cut anymore and i think that the true sign of a good jobe done. Maybe with an add better scene to close the story this could be screened at theaters, it is that good!

I believe everybody knows by now but Jean-Claude Mézières (the original Valerian comic creator/writer) passed away a month ago, this edit is probably the best homage someone could make to the legacy of a true french sci-fi maestro along with Moebius, Without him there's nowhere to copy the Millennium Falcon, or carbonite, neither that dusty tech look that today is the standard for most space films and shows. Give this edit a try!

This edit is fantastic. The romance grated my nerves so bad I would fast forward past the lovey dovey stuff. For once, I didn't have to do that to enjoy the movie. The pace of the story flows better. I can't say enough nice things about this edit. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Watching those two actors love all over each other was like watching Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley smooching at the MTV Video Awards. Blech! *retch*

The changes made to Valerian are seemless. I could not tell where the cuts were made and had to go back and watch the original to make a comparison. This beats the original cut easily. The weird romance and constant mentionings of marriage are gone which is great. That part of the film seemed so forced and awkward. My one issue was I felt a lttle confused when we learn he was possessed by the spirit of a dead alien in this cut.
