After seeing the first Transformers, I did like it a fair amount. There were things in it that bugged me, but the faneditors did a nice job of trimming the fat. (a hybrid of the Reave and Uncanny Antman versions would be ideal for me) Before I saw the sequel, I’d read a lot of negativity towards it and I thought ‘how much worse could it be? It’s pretty much the same thing, right?’ Well, the negativity was very well deserved. It’s like it took everything I disliked about the first one and turned the volume up to 11. It has everything I hate about modern filmmaking in spades! (irritating audio design, over-the-top action nonsense, stupid characters like Sam’s mother, gratuitous language, etc…) Even after all the cuts Kevinicus made, there’s still a long shopping list of stuff about it I don’t like. I don’t blame him, of course, and we all have different tastes in movies, but I kinda think I’ll watch Reave’s version of this film when he’s done, then that’s it. I can’t stands no more!
What I’ve just said is not a reflection on Kevinicus’ skills as an editor. He did remove a lot of stuff that was even worse than what’s left (haha) and made it a more enjoyable experience. And technically, it’s great! Video and audio quality are top notch and everything flows smoothly. :)
This edit really shows me how tough it must be to edit a movie like this, and for that, I will give it a 7/10. The movie itself with the cuts gets a 5.5 or 6. If I was rating the unedited movie, oh boy, I dunno what I would give it. 4? 4.5? :p
