Titanic (1997) is one of my favorite movies of all time, and while I enjoyed experiencing it in it's completed, uncut form, I also came to the conclusion that the theatrical version is a virtually perfect cut of the film and that many of the deleted scenes were cut for a reason. Some scenes were great, like "I'll be the first", Rose's extended meltdown, Jack walking Rose to First Class, and many of the sinking scenes. But the other scenes, like Lizzy arguing with Brock in the present day after Rose first puts on the diamond, Rose wanting to be a moving picture actress, and Jack fighting Lovejoy in the sinking First Class dining room were horrible and brought the narrative and my enjoyment of the movie down. And the alternate ending? Forget about it! That scene would have killed the film. The only thing I liked about that scene was when Old Rose saw a shooting star, it connected to earlier in the movie in the Jack walking Rose to First Class where they see a shooting star and Jack says "My pops says a shooting star is a soul going to Heaven", which sets up Old Rose's death and her reuniting with Jack in Titanic heaven.

On the technical side, I found myself spoiled by the later HD bluray re-releases so the standard definition quality of this film stuck out. The audio skipped occasionally, and the insertion of the deleted scenes were noticeable.

Overall, I enjoyed this edit and recommend this to all Titanic fans.

Titanic: The White Star Extended Edition

Review by Captain Khajiit

This is the best extended edition I have ever seen. The subject matter of the film fully justifies an epic extended edition of this nature, and the film easily absorbs the extra running time. I only became aware of the time when the first disc of this three-disc set ended.

I found each of the added scenes contributed to in some small way to the film, and filled out the story of one of the most remarkable disasters in world history. I do not care much for the alternative ending, but as the second and third discs are identical apart from the ending, one can take one’s choice.

Editing: 10 out of 10 for the editing itself – it was plain sailing all the way through

Entertainment: 10 out of 10 (theatrical – 9 out of 10)

Image and video quality: The video was excellent, with an almost imperceptible reduction in quality being present in the deleted scenes. 10 out of 10

Audio editing and audio quality: There is clear audio throughout, with only one hardcut being present, at a non-critical juncture, which did not take me out of the film at all. 9 out of 10

Presentation: who cares?

Overall: 10 out of 10

With adigitalman at the helm, Titanic becomes an unsinkable success.

Titanic was a long and great movie that nearly everybody enjoyed. For that reason, I was not sure if adding more to it would improve it somehow.

Now that I have watched this fanedit, I have to say that it is a great experience for those who know the fil by heart.

It is a pitty that there are not so many changes in the second half, but I do prefer the alternate ending.
