I didn't ask Geiferg for the edit.
I'd recently watched First blood and 2 but saw this over on The Fanedit Network on reddit and decided to give it a watch regardless. So I figure the least I could do is still review it over here on IFDB like I would do if I had asked.

Where to begin, the trailers were a wild ride, I'd love to see those movies, but not sure they can be given a true movie treatment, regardless they set the tone for what was going to be coming with Rambo.

I don't want to spoil things, chances are you read the description on the release information tab and that is pretty much what's on offer, a one man killing machine with a healthly amount of T&A, guns, digitized squibs, it feels like a love letter to stallones career as a whole, even the less hollywood side. I was impressed by not only the use of Hot shots to make the Colonel seem more in tone for the grindhouse, but to serve up another conquest for Rambo.

The only drawbacks are the autoread AI script is a little iffy and some of the early deepfake shots aren't so good, but at the same time, I'm impressed this is the work of one person so can easily dismiss these faults. It's just a madcap 1980's style yayo-fuelled execs dream and easily up there with the best grindhouse edits like War of the Stars.
Give it a look in, chances are you won't be disappointed.

This is quite a funny version of Rambo complete with alternate ending (if that was not from a deleted scene, then damn that was some phenomenal editing at the end). Be prepared for full frontal Stallone in all his glory. It's unfortunate the original score could not be easily removed-- but a lot of new music was still able to be added.

The narration was at times hard to understand which bumped the audio editing down slightly.
Most of it was fine though and listening to Stallone as a philosopher is what the world was missing until now: Life is like a box of grenades...

If you ever wanted to see Quentin Tarantino directing Rambo in the style of Inglourious Basterds. This is for you!

Life is a box of grenades....

This fan edit is very difficult for me to review. Trying to turn any modern movie, but particularly one as iconic as First Blood, into a Grindhouse experience is fraught with difficult challenges. It goes beyond just altering the look or sound, it is about capturing the right tone. And while this constantly swings for the fences, it does not always hit a home run for me.

Visually, I thought the new colour grading and damaged film fx evoked the proper Grindhouse look.

I enjoyed all the new music additions; the A-Team theme in particular made me chuckle. If anything, the new fun throw back music selections made Goldsmith's original score stand out in a negative a way for me. The original score segments sound too good, too professional, too polished for a Grindhouse experience.

The Stallone A.I. voice over -- a brilliant idea. And for the most part it works very well and made me laugh many times. However, there were also many times due to the Stallone impersonation and the mispronunciation of words, I had difficulty understanding what was being said.

And then there was the narrative tone. I found it wildly uneven. The movie swings widely from absurdist parody to dark dramatic action, and for me, that did not always work. I thoroughly enjoyed the insane absurd segments and wished the edit had gone even further into that territory.

There is much to appreciate in this fan edit. To paraphrase Rambo, this fan edit has balls!

Thumbs Up.
:)

Firstly, I rated the Audio/Video Quality 6 because it's meant to be a grindhouse film, but it's 10 on the grindhouse scale!!

I freakin' loved this version of the film. As many people have mentioned before. This IS Forrest 'RAMBO' Gump.
The narrative was excellent. It kept me glued wondering where the hell is this film going next.
There are so many tasty little easter eggs scattered throughout this movie and I love that Rambo swears so much. It's awesome.
Sadly, I'm not one of those people that can easily type out reviews in the form of an essay.

I'll finish with this...

First Blood is one of my favorite movies and getting to experience watching this FanEdit was soooooo much fun.
I thoroughly recommend it.
It would also be an amazing film to watch with a group of friends having drinks.

Thank You Gieferg
