Ok, what just happened? This is isn't editing, this is flat out magic!! Why do I say this? Thor Ragnarok was my most HATED movie from all the MCU! I'm not even joking. I almost stopped watching Marvel films after this one. Not only the changed the comic a lot, they also made Ragnarok a damn circus!!! Slapstick, braindead jokes and idiotic dialogue at the end of the world!? If one movie needed to be serious and dark in Thor's trilogy, it was this one. So, as you can problably tell, I never in a million years would have thought this movie can be saved. I just couldn't see it. Enter DigiModiFicaTion!

Audio and visual editing, as always, was excellent! I didn't notice or "felt" that something was tampered with, at any scene. So, once again, job well done here!

On the narrative side of things, it is amazing that the editor actually saw that there is a good film that can be salvaged under all the juvenile nonsense! And not only that, now that I could watch the movie at peace and actually enjoy it, I remembered that it is very important one, plot wise, for the MCU. Thor loses his hammer (and eye), Odin dies, we learn the whereabouts of Hulk and how he comes back, Asgard is destroyed and of course the ending, where the ship with all the Asgardians meet Thanos. So you can imagine my overwhelming joy when I realized, as the movie went on, that I liked it!! Not to get greedy, but I will agree with some reviews, that a bit more trimming could be done. Ok, I understand some bad jokes need to be kept for plot reasons, like the one at the beginning with Skurge and the human guns (Des+troy), if you cut this you have a big problem with the character's resolution at the end. But others, like Thor's constant electrocution, could be trimmed I think. Again though, I can live with that! Having 5 bad jokes out the 50, that where before, is an achievement!

So, this version is recommended to everyone! Unless you liked the sillines of the original, obviously. Otherwise, this is will be your go-to version of the movie!! Not that we had a choice before this, personally I just skipped it entirely in my MCU marathons.

Thank you very much DigiModiFicaTion and thanks to anyone who read my review!

I really enjoyed this trimmed down version and the editing was excellent. The original suffered from sophomoric humor and, at times, brought me out of the typical Marvel movie. That being said I did enjoy the original but hoped for something better. This fan-edit is what I was seeking. It is still funny mind you. There is no helping that. The actor playing Thor has really honed his skills in the humor department but as I watched this with my son he struggled with the cuts. So now I believe this is generational. What I thought was inane was downright hilarious to a teen.

The choices the faneditor made were excellent and his editing skills were flawless(Devils Anus- really?). So my son will not allow me to replace this as our go-to but the Trimmed Edition deserves to be MY go-to. So everyone who enjoyed the original should give this a chance, it is still funny and it still will make you feel like a kid again.

A highly recommended edit!
I loved the theatrical cut, but felt that certain bits were out of place - or rather over the top. For example, Thor spinning during the conversation with Surtur, or shrieking several times throughout the film. Another example - Banner crashing on the Bifrost. I felt that trimming these bits could greatly improve the film. It turns out I was right.
DigModiFicaTion's edit is wonderfully done - both technically and narrative-wise. I liked it a lot, but deducted 2 points from my score because of two small issues:
a. Tiny continuity issue - skipping the visit to New York means that Thor and Loki should not be wearing civilian clothes, yet for some reason (in this edit) they do.
b. Trimming somewhat important moments - 'Get Help' sheds some interesting light on the siblings' relationship and therefore should not be cut. Additionally, Hela's comment about the fake Infinity Gauntlet was a nice way of tying loose ends, and I was sorry to see it gone.

Again - all in all a brilliant edit, well done.

Like the rest of the reviewers on this thread I am not a big fan of the theoretical version of Thor Ragnarok, quite frankly they should have did away with the Sakaar stuff and just had the entire movie be about Ragnarok itself yeah perhaps it would have made for a shorter movie but at least it would have been short and sweet with less bad jokes, more action and some meaningful character moments.

Well I think there’s more that could have been trimmed especially the Sakaar stuff ugh, the things that were trimmed and slashed away definitely made this movie a little more bearable and watchable for me and managed to preserve at least some of Thor Odinson’s dignity.

Like panexis and eternalsage, this is by far my least favorite MCU film. But unlike them, this fanedit does not make Ragnarok watchable for me. As eternalsage said, "crap movie is crap down to its bones" haha! So how to be fair when grading this edit?

Okay, the faneditor's stated goal was to "Trim down the overly ridiculous humor and some of the more over the top cgi fights". Did it do that? I think, MOSTLY yes. There's just SO much overly ridiculous humor in this that it might be impossible to cut it all. Some examples that are still in the film: Hela joking about taking out Thor's eye (with a slap, smh?), God of Thunder getting repeatedly tazed, "Is it though?", Asgardian groupies getting splashed by decapitation goo, Loki's 30 minute tazing, and so on. Can all that be cut? I honestly don't know. I feel like the only way to actually fix the humor in this film is with a much more ambitious re-edit, probably mixing up the chronology and re-scoring the film. It wouldn't be a "trimmed" edition. So I mostly have to give this a high rating, even though it was still like nails-on-a-chalkboard to me.

My thoughts on the film in general and what doesn't work are here: https://letterboxd.com/nottheacademy/film/thor-ragnarok/ But I have to say that I'm NOT opposed to humor in a Thor film. But the humor should be situational and happen as a result of character and story, not from improv-ing and TRYING to make jokes. So some of the humor that was removed here was actually consistent with that. Many of Korg's droll lines, Thor's story about Loki's mischief and some of his comments to Hulk, Hulk not caring about being naked, and...even though it probably is too much, I do miss Loki's "That's what it feels like!"

Overall, this didn't reshape the movie in the way that I wanted. I suspect that for people who really enjoyed it the first time and only realized there were issues when they heard other people complain: this will be the perfect sweet spot. Big, goofy, sci-fi comedy with charming people. It's not Thor, but a lot of people didn't care about Thor before this anyway. If so, this is the film for you.
