Thor was one of the origin mcu films that I really liked. Ok, not every second of it but it was pretty good intro to the character and fan movie in general. The only reason I decided to watch this edit is because I was intrigued by the idea of the restructed narrative.

Technical wise, audio and visual editing was excellent! Leaving my knowing-the-movie-by-heart out, I couldn't notice any tampering in any scene. It was as if this was the theatrical cut. So job well done here!

On the narrative side of things I'll say this, this is by far the best way, especially for someone who is unfamiliar with the character, to watch the film! Although, I won't agree with the editor that you truly feel as if the guy isn't actually Thor. I mean, there are several reasons for the viewer to be certain who the "blonde guy" is, not necessarily in-movie reasons. But, with that being said, it does match the narrative from the view point of Jane. You get to see the actual Thor, when Jane finally knows that he truly was Thor all along. Also, considering the fact that every origin movie ever, presents you the actual hero towards the middle of the movie, again, the editor's narrative here fits better.

So I definitely recommend this to everyone, even more so if you have no idea about comic book Thor! For me, the only reason that this will probably not be my go-to version, is the lack of subtitles. And since I really liked the original also, I'll stick with my blu-ray...Btw, if anyone knows if there are english subs for this, I would appreciate the info!

Thank you Malthus and thanks to anyone who read my review!

A much-needed shuffling of the narrative works wonders here, lending mystery to an otherwise dull superhero origin story. Your mileage for god-out-of-water shenanigans may vary, but to my mind, the addition of the deleted scenes hinder, rather than help, though. Pacing was already a problem for the original cut and this isn't helped particularly by adding more scenes to the mix. For my next MCU and/or Thor re-watch I'm curious to try Malthus' non-Godsized re-cut of this same film, to see if the pacing is more to my liking. (When a major character takes an extended nap in the middle of a movie, my immediate reaction should ideally not be "oh, what a lucky guy.")

However, aside from my quibbles about the runtime, this is a technically excellent edit, with plenty to recommend it.

Rewatching this without the direct knowledge that Thor is a god is something else. Shifting the perspective of the first act to be about Jane Foster on the verge of a remarkable discovery only to have it hinge on a man who may or may not be insane is wonderful, and having the reveal of the warriors three signal the story of Thor and the Asgardians is a nice change of pace. I think this might be a better structure than the original. It really helps understand Jane as a character and start to get endured towards Thor before he is revealed to be a powerful hero. The scene with Loki and Thor before the coronation is absolutely incredible for their dynamic and I don't know why it wasn't included in the original.

As for my criticisms, they are few and far between. The pacing is a bit off, both with everything with Thor and Jane happening very quickly in the beginning and with some scenes feeling like they could have held a little longer, but that seems like an issue with what there was to work with, not the edit itself. There are a few scenes where the music is louder than the dialogue, but overall the sound is pretty solid. Easily a recommend and very likely my new go to version of the film. Thank you for letting me watch this.

The official release of this film tells the audience immediately that "yes, this IS Thor, and yes, he IS a 'god'". These people in the van just don't know it yet. They front-loaded their film with a Lord of the Rings Prologue and a whole bunch of Thor ass-kicking. Which works.

But what if you wanted to keep a little uncertainty about whether or not the guy who claims he's Thor actually IS him? This edit has been restructured quite successfully to that end.

*** SPOILER ALERT (Do we worry about that sort of thing here?) ***
A van hits a guy in the desert, who claims to be Thor and eventually goes to get back his hammer and CAN'T PICK IT UP. We, as the audience, don't know why, if this is supposed to be Thor! A surprisingly effective misdirect, if you were going for that, which Malthus was. I'd be shocked if this approach wasn't floated when they were planning the film, but I'm sure someone in a suit shot it down, so they could get to the aforementioned ass-kicking that much faster.

And in fairness, the Frost Giant battle flashback IS a huge sequence, and switching it to the middle of the film is a little lumpy, It's like the film begins twice. There's a way to do this right, but it would probably involve Thor telling some of the story himself, once the Warriors Three arrive, instead of just showing all of it to us. But they wanted us to see it. Ass-kicking and whatnot.

Still, Malthus has done an absolutely amazing job of reconstructing this alternate reality take, and I personally enjoy this version much more than the original. It's the same story, just a smarter presentation.

The repeated scene of Thor colliding with his soon to be mortal friends vehicle should have been left out and instead after he's sent hurtling to Midgard the scene should have gone straight to the next Asgard scene and the audio tended to go really quiet for the talking scenes and become really loud for the fight sequences though I enjoyed the rest of what this edit had to offer immensely and I can definitely see why it won The Fanedit Of The Month Award, this is vastly superior to the original and if you ever decided to do a Fanedit of Thor Darkworld I am certain that the hypothetical edit of that movie would also surpass the original version of said movie.
